I just started bow hunting and have had to learn on my own. Your scent advice brought a huge buck into my hunting area. Unfortunately, since I am noob I spooked him before I had a clear shot. Thanks for sharing!

I've been hunting bear for 40 years. I feel how a bear reacts to scent is controlled by his belly, if their really hungry, they're more appt to throw caution to the wind. If they aren't, they play it safe. Thanks Bernie for all your time helping us with a sport that we love!
@BowhuntingRoad4 күн бұрын
That might be true to a point but they will not come if they do not feel safe, period. They have other things to eat.
@dannynelson64104 күн бұрын
I do feel that this year was a case in point, record harvest, no natural food. Lots of big bear this year shot, more than normal.

I'm not an expert, but this sounds quite reasonable. Bears would definitely get alerted if the strong human smell is around, but normally, dont mind some of it.

Got my first bear 3yrs. ago. Now my favorite wild game meat.
@JT-bc5cd6 күн бұрын
I have brought in all sorts of game meat into my household over the years, and the consensus of myself and my family is that is is a favorite. It makes the best sausages (fall bears make better sausage than anything else in my opinion whether game or domesticated). Anyway very good point about folks with bad experiences with bear meat likely eating a bear that was not handled properly after kill

Nice share. I was curious about what their dens were like. I have a lot of bears visiting this summer so it peeked my interest as they should be hibernating soon.

I’ve got a Moultrie edge2 what do you think is the best for it I have put energizer alkalines and they only last 2 weeks I use the lowest settings as possible 1 minute delay on photos and I get about 100 photos every night and drown 10% every day

You could go with duracell, they might be a little better but I would suggest getting the lithium recharchable battery pack, it is much better.

That’s amazing, that’s a dream hunt, and scenario, the stars aligned, I just got my first bear last week, being made into a rug now, he was about 250 so on the smaller side but it was such a rush, I’ve only seen a handful of bears in my life so was amazing to take one, great video

Great video all the way around, the only thing I would add to this video is the importance of staying in your stand until last light, the last -3- bears I harvested were in the last few minutes of legal hunting hours, thanks once again Bernie 👍

I actually just wrote about that topic for my column in Bear Hunting Magazine a couple weeks ago.

I was looking for a way to make my own scent killer and this video popped up. I believe scent killers work like this, I think that when we pass by an object and brush up against it we leave scent. A deer can tell how long ago you were there by that scent. 20 min, 2 hours or 6 hours. If the scent is fresh enough they bolt or run off. Scent killers fool the deer into thinking you were there 6 hours ago instead being right there. However because fresh human orders emit from your breath constantly and that can’t be controlled, distance wind direction and approach still mean a lot regardless. Just my thoughts 👍👍

I call it scent "threshholds" and I'm planning to do a video on that specific topic in the near future.

I’ve used peanut butter for years now. The deer love it. The deer yard up in the area that I live during the winter months. I like to experiment too.

is there an issue with getting to 160 with a dehydrator if it's taking too long? Will it still kill trichinella if it takes a while to get to temp?
@BowhuntingRoad12 күн бұрын
Great question. The answer is yes, it cannot survive at that temperature even if it takes a long time to get there.

Please don't kill them you should know the importance of biodiversity and conservation pls try to understand. According to IUCN (international union for nature and natural resources 15,500 species are facing the threat of extinction. If this continues we will lose all the wealth of this biodiversity within less than 2 centuries.

Hunters pay for conservation and the black bear population is too large and growing. Good conservation demands that we keep predator populations in control. Hunting is why the North American Model of Conservation has been so successful. Throughout North America, black bears are abundant and hunting seasons have been expanded to keep the growth under control.

I took my first Bear in the North Georgia Mountains. I scouted and found excellent signs and setup on the ground, but I was using a rifle. It is probably my all time favorite memory hunting. I felt accomplished, especially after speaking with some of the hunters I ran across that said it took them 20+ years to get a Bear. I have since passed up on some smaller ones, and tried to allow a guy I invited to take a 300+ lb Bear, but he froze up. Not sure if he was scared or what. But I can guarantee you, I will be hunting that area this year, and I won’t be having any tag alongs. Great video and great advice!

Best cell cameras I’ve used! Like all cameras you do miss shots that camera doesn’t take, I ran a new Moultrie edge pro next to an old Moultrie so card model and each camera always had a few pictures the other one missed? They were over a recent Wis bear bait! It helps to set delay to zero between pictures, but they are my favorite by far!
