You could do even better if you scrap the idea of a front fork and copy Robert Horn's front suspension design. Doing the same with his rear suspension will also allow you to shorten the wheelbase. Another thing, assuming you have standard 17" wheels and the tire diameter works out to the equally standard 23-26 inches, you should know that raising the peg position to be roughly equal to the axle heights will vastly improve the available lean angle before scraping. All of this is in line with Robort Horn's recumbent race bike design and he's be damn near as far over as GP bikes from what I've seen of his blog (and his insta before he took that down).

I ride a Begode K6. I've been thinking of how to scale it up and I found this. Great job. I'd like to build something similar but lighter and lower. Hub motor front and rear. All out performance. Again, great job sir.

Nice work! FF electric motorcycle design has not been really done well yet and the 10kWh pack is a real achievement! Are the cells in prismatic or cylindrical form? Concerns about heating you mention in comments should not preclude a 4kW charge, and TBH a 6.6kW charge rate (30A at 220V AC) should be supportable with equipment like you can get from Elcon.

I do wonder how much more of a battery pack you could support in this layout. Maybe move the DC-DC converter behind you and build the frame and pack case right up to the steering linkages. The pack case at that height might add a little extra stiffness as well.

I’ll also throw in my general advice to fit a basic fairing and windscreen, as well as inlay the rims with discs covering the spokes, because you should be able to get 30% more range that way.

They are cylindrical cells, and i would just need a charge controller to support 220 right now its just 110

I've ridden my electric custom electric recumbent that is very similar in design to yours 22000 miles and I'd like to offer a few comments for you to consider. number one you need to have a precharge resistor or you're going to fry your controller and weld your contacts very soon number 2 you need to be very cautious about riding feet forward and having your feet either fall off the footbags by hitting a bump or by putting them down on purpose. you will rip your legs off At the hip. number 3 You should put a dampner on the front steering of any custom motorcycle as a precaution against headshake. While, you think you may not have a headshake problem believe me when it happens you'll f****** wish you had put a dampener on the steering. It is cheap and it's a little bit of insurance. Congratulations on the build, it looks great.

Removed the pre charge resistor because it caused the contactor to “bounce” there is a diode there now. But yeah definitely need to be careful about the feet for sure might add some catch for the heel maybe. Steering dampener might be good too.

Your's is one of the few electric recumbent motorcycles I have seen on the internet, it is very close to what i have wanted to build. Any problems with the police while riding sych a unique vehicle? Thanks for the inspiration and a video.

Since it is not a production model it would end up selling around the 20k range with parts and labor.

Pretty cool to see someone make an electric recumbent. How is the handling? Theory is that having the rider, wheels, and battery all in line makes the polar moment low and makes it easier to change pitch. Another guy, Robert Horn, has his own far out ideas on building recumbents. Wonder if any of it's true in practice... Regardless, kudos on the build!
@floptimus9650
@floptimus9650 4 ай бұрын
Yes, lower polar moment of inertia due to the rider position being lower definitely makes it easy to lean. The longer wheelbase also adds stability at higher speeds. The handling is great on the bike overall, but in low speeds <10mph it is very easy to oversteer.

@@floptimus9650 Good to hear that theory is being validated by some real world experimentation! Shame the moto industry is so unwilling to toy with new designs.

Love the concept. Could be more aerodynamic than regular electric motorcycle which could give a better range. If it could use public ev chargers it would be great for long journeys. Love the steering set up. All in all the bike is weird and wonderful.

Would love to set it up to be charged at public chargers. Would need to add an active cooling system for the battery pack and a step down transformer though. Maybe for V2.
@BrianTRice77
@BrianTRice77 2 ай бұрын
With that 10kWh pack, typically you should be able to charge at 4kW or so without heat concerns. So a 3kW charger for 220V AC or J1772 charging stations should be pretty risk free! Worth trying 3kW while monitoring cell temperature just to see.

@@JayAristo I would definitely go for a wheel hub motor setup and build around that. Whether it is a bike or a motorcycle if you want to go recumbent that's the way to go. It allows you to skip having to deal with a chain drive or any type of gearbox. Also allows you to fit the full seat in without having to worry about space for the motor/chain otherwise the seat would be far too high which wouldn't work if you are trying to make the Akira bike.
