Thanks for watching. I see a free option on this page trello.com/pricing . I did a quick google search and found this template that one writer shared: trello.com/templates/personal/writing-a-book-XAOC4oWL . Trello isn't an ideal option for everyone, but everyone thinks differently so I included it.

Notion has a free limited plan, so.. Not free. Also it is closed source code and it belongs to a company doing whatever they want with your content. Something weird is happening on the back we don't know yet.

Question: What if you have a book series that is a continuation, because I am an author of five published books in a series and yet hardly sold any. Do you focus on selling your first book, or do I also have to sell some of the book's sequels. If so, then how many books do you recommend for those who are starting out? What's your advice?
@gotAngstVlog
@gotAngstVlog Ай бұрын
Sorry for the slow reply. If your books fit the genre of the con (suspense thrillers might not do well at a romance con) - don't hold back from trying to sell everything you've wriitten. I offered the whole set of my Angst series at a discount and readers who enjoyed my pitch ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaOUdHyLZbN7gNk ) bought them all - sometimes even in hardcover!

Thanks for taking the time to do this. I have to agree that Manuskript is not a pretty piece of software, but it has surprising depth, and is still in development. The tree structure on the left allows for easy navigation between locations, items, and so forth. Bibisco is also still in development, and its character generator is terrific. And as you say, it looks very polished. I keep wanting to like Bibisco, but it irks me that if I want to switch from say, a scene to adding a detail to my McGuffin, it isn't a straightforward task. Oh, and if you're on a 17" laptop with a 4k screen, the text - even at its largest - is too small for easy reading...so those with say, a 13" XPS will need to adjust display settings. One that I use because I just feel it places a lot of tools at my fingertips is WritItNow. Although sadly, it is no longer under development, the current version is _very_ competent. (Most of my novels are written using WIN.) I put oStorybook in the same category as Bibisco, and the developers are still working on it, but it is complex and has a slightly too-steep learning curve, followed by some real obstinacy - like adding a photo for a character profile - that leaves me frustrated. No denying that it has great depth though, and will likely reward those who become expert at it.

It's so absurd to me that Campfire has the nerve to charge like $15 per month for the software. I can recreate what it does using folders and text documents on google or just my own computer, I just like the convenience of having it all on one app and not having to navigate actual computer directories for my notes, or being able to edit things on my phone when I'm out and about (which I could also achieve for free by setting up a remote desktop server). Campfire doesn't offer anything unique to the writing experience, it has no business charging any more than like $5 as a convenience fee. I'd also be willing to just pay a one-time purchase for a writing software, I value the convenience and a nice UI to streamline the writing process. I'm not cheap, I'm willing to spend money where it matters, but I understand the value of a product and Campfire is not a software that's worth a $300+ lifetime license. That's HALF of what PHOTOSHOP used to cost. That's more than how much CSP CURRENTLY costs.

Good to have free options when many clueless software developers want to charge considerable subscriptions per month. Too many think their one bit of software, with limited functionality, is more valuable than the whole microsoft office suite! It's mad! Happy to buy software ONCE, and at a reasonable price. But the ongoing extortion model needs to die fast.

Very helpful, thanks! I have been fed up with Ms Word ever since they introduced the banners. I even paid for old fashioned menus to restore the functionality I am used to. I am also concerned about the pressures to keep an undated version of OS and Programs, although I am quite satisfied with what I already have. So I am moving to Linux. Libre Office looks the same on Windows and Linux, and if it is flexible enough, I would stick to it. Your video helps clarify that point.

Do all Litrpgs have to be based on MMORPG settings? What about singleplayer/offline rpgs?
@gotAngstVlog
@gotAngstVlog Жыл бұрын
Not at all. The key is that the world the book takes place in, virtual or real, has gaming elements. Some books, for example, literally have characters roll dice like D&D.
@dspprince
@dspprince Жыл бұрын
@@gotAngstVlog So then, a narrative paragraph in a LitRPG story can literally just say a character can't use a weapon type due to class restrictions, cooking a recipe has level up character's cooking skill, or barbarian character can take less damage if he or she is wearing no armor and less clothing? Also, character can wield giant weapons like in Dark Souls, and simply stuff them in inventory bags? These kinds of elements? Or are there restrictions to what should and shouldn't when it comes to writing LitRPGs?
@gotAngstVlog
@gotAngstVlog Жыл бұрын
@@dspprince The cool thing about LitRPG is that everything is up to you, whether it is giant weapons or how characters gain cooking skills - as long as it makes sense. It's your world to create. Make the rules, stick to them, or break them for a reason. If you haven't already, you'll learn a lot by reading books in the genre. My videos are an introduction. Go read some of those great stories to see what other authors have done :)

Character progress (leveling, skill trees, etc.) and stats often with a video game-like interface. These elements can be very heavily featured in the story (Randidly Ghosthound or Defiance of the Fall) or kinda sit in the background, giving way to story, character and plot (Super Supportive, mother of Learning, etc.). It doesn’t have to be full on MMORPG. The one rule I have learned more than anything is don’t listen to a stat heavy LITrpg on audiobook. Listening to sometimes vast lists of stats read out over and over is just a terrible experience (looking at you Defiance of the Fall and Primal Hunter)

I have Scrivener v2 paid 35,- Lifetime! to have it installed (.exe) on my computer. IT IS REALLY MINE. Which you don't have with all those browser programs. Bought AION timeliner to connect it with my Scrivener. Aion is way to difficult. Love Scrivener and hate Aion. There is now a Scrivener V3. The forum is still lively. But i Stick for now with my lovely V2. Cool thing about Scrivener is that you can unlimed cork planes. So timeline, Artifact line, Character line you can all make it. Also you can make unlimited maps with text planes or cork planes underneath it. Bibisco paid version is with tax 46 Euro and is just plain anoying. campfirewriting has a free section to. And that is also a cool thing. Lifetime payment is per section and that is quite hefty. Also consider Browser programs are not really lifetime. Further hate Grammarly. Which is not free! The good things you need are in PRO. lOVE Hemingway Editor!! TOTALLY FREE

Thanks so much for putting this information out there! There are many people in underprivileged situations who can't afford to buy any of the products a lot of writers suggest these days. Personally, I think it's awful that the impressions these suggestions leave could make potential writers feel that only the premium products are worth anything for starting their career as a writer. Money really shouldn't be a barrier to entry for people who could become great writers and impact the world and raise themselves out of obscurity by their hard work.

I’ve read many of these books over the last several years- starting with the legend of randidly ghosthound on the website royal road. Recently I’ve moved towards reading books on kindle unlimited and am currently reading the grand game series. This genre has been an extremely fun time for me and I don’t regret the hundreds of hours I have spent reading LitRPG books whatsoever. Ofc tho finding unique books that aren’t the exact same thing just with a twist has become a challenge but I still find some outliers that I enjoy.
