You are not designers, you are UX writers. Content can mean many things words, images/illustrations, video, animation/gifs, photography but all you UX writers do is leverage words. Just because the work is taking place in the context/creation of digital products doesn't make the writing work as 'design'. If a designer writes a call to action button "sign up now" doesn't make them a UX writer. That would be like calling an underwriter a lawyer, a science writer a Scientist, etc. I think you people are so damn confused about your identity and role which is so ironic given you "writers" should be clear about your communication.
@EdgarGarcia-ui1uh
@EdgarGarcia-ui1uh 2 жыл бұрын
Wow. UX writers (content designers) might be a new field/job titles, and yes it still evolving, but to say that words cannot be design is just very narrow minded. Just like a UI designer has a big impact on the color choice and font choice to the design, and how a UX designer has a big impact on flow of user and the experience of an app, a UX Writer has an equal impact to that facet of design. All aspects of UX, including writings, are by design (choice) and therefore UX Writers are designers in their own field.

@A2Kaid Design is not just about visuals. In the digital product design world, design can be defined as thinking through a process and intentionally creating solutions to desire a specific outcome. Writing is designing. So is strategy. Everything is implemented with the purpose of achieving a goal.

hiI I. just listened to you on a podcast "code newbie",,I recently started my journey into coding! after hearing of the no coding community I'm curious as to if you have any recommendations for a very very basic level earner? I'm not looking for. a job necessarily but. my roommate is into zbrush,,cinema 4d,,,etc> we are wanting to design games. I guess my question would be ,,,,do you think no code would be a better beginning to my entry into game dev.? thanks so much!
@DesignCareerNetwork
@DesignCareerNetwork 3 жыл бұрын
(Andi Galpern from DCN here) If you're interested in building websites without coding, you should check out Webflow's KZbin channel. There are so many useful tutorials from entry level to advanced. As far as game design goes, I think it's better to first know coding basics and then use no-code tools to make the process move faster. It's important to be familiar with what's happening behind the scenes, so you understand the full picture. I wonder what others think. Please add comments if you can help answer this question.

Interesting! Gives me some insight within the field. How do people usually get into designing for healthcare systems without prior experience in the healthcare field?
@DesignCareerNetwork
@DesignCareerNetwork 3 жыл бұрын
Andi Galpern here, responding on behalf of DCN. I don't work in healthcare design, but I do speak with lots of UX healthcare designers. Here are a few basic tips that I can think of that might help. 1) Master designing with data. 2) Study privacy laws like HIPAA and GDPR. 3) Research policy - you don't need to know all of it, but there is some red tape and restrictions based on HIPAA guidelines that will shape your design decisions. 4) Most importantly, talk with people who work on healthcare UX and mirror their career path. If there's anyone else who would like to chime in with tips on how to break into UX healthcare, feel free to add on to this thread.

AWESOME talk! I personally don't like the 'recipe'-type of solution, but I guess it gives the audience some more practical ideas that are implementable (things he says like the 'the density of information of can give is basically the same as if you were doing a mobile app'). Coming from a gamedev background I just think VR/AR/XR UI/UX designers limit themselves SOOO much just by the fact that they all come from print/web/mobile backgrounds. Every-other UX/UI Mock-up/experiment looks like a direct port from the web, which is an adaptation of print. IMO, this feels like a 'waste' of the medium. What spatial computing allows is the use of the 3rd dimension, along with a whole new slew of new stuff like Voice, Gestures, etc. It's very hard to find real examples of UX/UI designs that actually know how to use the tech. IMO, at least things could 'stop' being so much non-diegetic and have more in-context approaches. Especially for AR/XR cases, I find it very stranges that the metaphor still is the 'desktop', while the entire premise of the medium is the freedom of the space the user is. And all designers do in most cases is a 2.5D approach which is directly borrowed from the web/app stuff. The ideal UX/UI for VR/AR/XR should be a mix of voice and gesture along with actual physical representations of real interactions we have with the real world - physics, grabbing things, moving pieces/tools, etc. I understand that content is still largely stuck in 2D, so it can make sense to have a 2D base to support that, but I also believe things could/should go further from moving a cursor/pointer to a box which represents a button in a 2.5D non-diegetic HUD framing. Again, I really enjoyed this talk, it was very informative, but it kinda solidified my idea that we should unshackle our UX/UI principles from the print/web/app 2D world once and for all, and designers should free themselves to create interfaces that actually take advantage of the medium. Thanks for sharing this talk! :D

@@DesignCareerNetwork True. Some people just tune into something and naturally start a counter. "Um" can be overcome, but I don't claim it is easy. Practicing forming thoughts earlier before vocalizing can help, but it does mean slowing everything down a little bit.
