I thought you might like to know there is a population of at least nine red squirrels in Blyth, Northumberland, which is further south than your maps are showing.

Be aware that what greys are being accused of is exactly what the reds were once accused of. The reds were once hunted to near extinction. The UK Government, and regional UK Governments, propagandise and manipulate. "Culling" equals 'killing', which is never humane, nor "ethical". Reds and greys are amazing.

It was great working on this project with such great people, although hard work in harsh conditions.

Great video, thank you. We have eastern grey squirrels over here in Florida. Didn't know they had been introduced across the pond and were invasive. Hope the red squirrel population recovers well. Cheers!

I thought the Willam's Cleugh pines had already been propagated in some quantity, and used in plantations in Galloway. Of course, they should also be planted in their native country, England, being as they are (probably) the only "English Pines". It's also interesting that native Irish Scots pines have recently been discovered in a similar, small isolated surviving group, as at William's Cleugh, in the Burren, Co. Clare, and are being propagated. Some wood ants (Formica lugubris) should also be considered for introduction at Kielder, as a native keystone woodland species.

It’s brilliant that Formica logubris has grown in population and spread across northern uk. It was a study of mine back in 2003 when there were only a few areas to see them

I live south northumberland near cramlington nature reserve ive strongly felt for the reds and agree with a cull but i also believe members of the public should have a right to hunt invasive species ive ate grey squirrel many times its a lean meat more heqlthy for you than store bought but in our country it seems like your average joe cant go and shoot greys woth his air rifle unless u have private land its a shame as hunting and hunter conservatism are 2 diffrent things to me and if im going to hunt rabbits or greys i believe the animal should atleast get the respect of being eaten and not wasted but what do i lnow just a daft geordie giving his 50ps worth

If you do not have any Red squirrel groups around you there is this group that covers the whole of the UK and Ireland it is a facebook group of volunteers and supporters "UK and Ireland Squirrels The Grey Area” If you have a wood or Garden that need controlling please let us know and we will see if we have anyone near you Please DONT post Cull (Kill) or Natural Kill Photos in this group We are looking for people who cull rats, rabbit's, pigeons and crows, Etc. To turn their attention to control the invasive American grey squirrel. We are also looking for professional's, landowners, farmers, gamekeepers, pest control, military and wildlife experts or anyone else that wants to help, The purpose of the group is to coordinate a Grey Squirrel cull for the whole of the UK and Ireland. They are destroying our Song Birds, Wild life, Trees and consider your Health they spread Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases. We need at least 20,000 members for this idea to work and we have 10,000 in 400 local groups we need to get organise and work together to clear a whole map area, For the UK please PM me the first half of your post code. For Ireland please PM me the County and first half of your post code. And I will send you a link for your local group. Please don't leave this Grey Squirrel problem to the next generation. Please join in the conversation. Please tell me by PM a little bit about yourself if you shoot trap or other form of grey control or need grey control See you in the group Thank You Brendan Anderson. very good video. We in Cornwall don't have the pleasure of Reds in the wild but there are a few of us actively controlling the Greys. We are independent volunteers funding our pursuits ourselves. As trying to get help from the local Red group is impossible

Hi Bryan. We were anticipating KZbin giving us a few minutes at the end, but alas! A work-round for next time is to add a few extra minutes onto the video with photos etc. to allow more time. So we learn. Please drop Mike or me an email if you had any specific questions that we didn't have time for.
