Hello from NZ, if your shoulder straps are too thin or make your shoulders sore, then buy a couple of car seat belt covers. I recommend to all my students that they buy them. I prefer the woolen ones; you will find that this will make it more enjoyable and easier to carry your load. I recommend that you put the tent at the top of the pack and your mat at the bottom. Having the tent at or above the shoulders will be less stressful on the body, having it on the bottom will make you lean forward more and fatigue you more, also it will impede your gait. As an instructor in bushcraft in the mountains for 50+ years, I have found that these couple of tips work and will make your trips more enjoyable. I'm 76 and still carrying 20 kgs. It has been nearly 60 years since I did my first 'solo' and any fear will soon evaporate after a few more. The first forty years are the worst, then it becomes easier.🤣🤣Anyway that's my two cents worth. Enjoyed the video, ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ 😊😊

@@mountainmantararua8824 thank you very much for the tips! Especially the placement of the tent, I hadn’t considered that at all! I’ve bought a much newer backpack for my next camp, so hopefully the strap situation will be sorted 👌🏻 Thanks very much for watching! I think you take the award for my viewer living the furthest away!

Great video Dave. I remember my first wild camp, the weight on the shoulders was a shock to the system 😆 Back then, I didn’t realise the waist strap takes part of the weight 🫣 You’ll learn a lot from this camp, including what you probably don’t necessarily need to take next time. But it’s sooooo worth it isn’t it, that solitude is the best feeling. I love that tor, I walked past it on my video last week, it has so much character. Watching your video has made me decide to camp there soon. Thanks for a great watch 😁

I walk from Prewley moor up past Sourton Tor and then up Corn Ridge to Branscombe's Loaf every other day throughout the year-except when lightning is forecast (for obvious reasons). It's my exercise that keeps me going at 74 years old. Yes, it's a climb, but you get used to it. The whole walk takes me around an 1 hr 40 minutes. I know it's daft but I've named most of the rocks along the route!
