21:54 Ironically, I had a lot more toxicity from Windows Users when they get a glimpse of my desktop and realized I was using Linux, and so they spend a lot of their time trying to argue to me why that I should be using Windows instead and they list out their issues that I never really had. That i'm using the wrong software and all that shit.

I use arch btw. Note on people and mind set, people want to have a status by having the newest technology. I am still using lenovo 2016 laptop I did not make any switch let alone by other product. The mind set people have is they are better by having all the new technology. Right now everything is becoming AI oriented as well as the privacy issues that are coming right now. The main reason people do not like to use linux is for one reason and that is hating to read documentation. Most people are too oriented on the idea that they don't need to read the actual documentation for them to figure out and solve the error they encounter. Personally I love linux and daily drive it for about 4 years however it is the greatest encounter in my life it helped me better in most of my development setup as well as daily driving and realizing the amount of knowledge i would gain by reading documentation. I switched due the blue screen of death and auto update and privacy. I did try windows 11 on a spare ssd but OMG it was a mess. People also need to appreciate inde gem dev because they are wonderful games.

could we get a video about arch linux? Or even better, a series? It could go not just from install, but also cover how to daily drive it? (There are many videos on how to install arch, but none on how to get started and use it a a daily driver). I just thought that would be cool.

I'm just joining the linux community, setting up my first server, ect. I joined a facebook group of linux users. There are soooo many arguments and just high nosed veterans or way to confident middle users that make it a point to comment with so much unnecessary attitude to new users or even users that might have 2 years in fedora, but the commenter was a systems admin daily driving linux distros for the last 25 years. Honestly, it's hilarious, but I have no doubt there are a higher trends of toxicity. There are a lot of people that help and are nice, but just to amount of pure snub nose comments for no reason is crazy. lol

Love and hate with Linux since 99 at high school. Bugs, too much time fixing shit etc., then used it in 2004 at college, then 2007 again, 2010..11, 2016..18, 2021 finally got Endeavour an Arch based distro that just worked, pacman with AUR at fingertips. Bliss!! Then stupidly got back into Windows for "convenience" but the landscape is so filthy now I can't dig it anymore, so your video was the bump I needed to just go back to it once more, and probably stay there for good. Cheers my friend, it's so cool having people a generation after mine giving such a good talk and practically a lesson for life, for people! Resonated so much with owning the things. So sad so few people watched this but hey, an elevated state of mind and spirit is not for the regular Joe indeed... Btw, what an intro, best intro of all time!! I laughed and continue to laugh so much while watching it XD Cheers and much success!

That speach at the end hitted me like truck, cause my whole reason to not try Linux was precisely "It has no support for software needed for my job", but then I remembered that I'm here cause I want to make a minibuild just for myself, it felt like taking a big gasp of air after being under water for too long.

My main issues are with Microsoft. W11 is a privacy nightmare, currently. Even before all the new AI recall stuff gets added. There's also the lack of customization options that exist on Linux, the lack of an offline account on W11, and the terrible update structure. I could go on for a while lol If you like W11, that's totally fine. I'm just here to share my opinions and experiences.

one thing that has allowed me to bypass gate keepers when transitioning to Linux for the same reason was using ChatGPT Model o1 to walk me through and troubleshoot issues, I mean I've used Model o1 to write full programs in python and I don't even know how to write or read python or any programing language. I recommend using ChatGPT plus with Model o1 to figure complex things out that saves time and bypasses gate keepers

Been using EndeavourOS for close to a year now. I like it but recently I've just been having many issues with it, mostly from a filesystem corruption angle. I've probably screwed stuff up and that's why it's happening but I literally just had Thunar crash and bork itself and I'm just feeling ready to move back to something simpler. I will say I feel like I have learned a lot using it, especially when it comes to doing dirty fixes to get back to using my system, but really with a more advanced distro I should be learning to do the fixes the right if hard/difficult way. Back to Mint! I originally started out a year earlier on Linux using an old HP-Mini with Lubuntu installed on it. Still have it going today and I fool around with it every so often. Wish the mini was just a tad bit more powerful, has a good battery life on it still and makes a great writer's notepad. I3 is still my favorite window manager regardless of system/distro.

I remember when I was setting up Windows 10 back in the day and I fell for Microsoft's trap of using a Microsoft account (instead of a local account) to log in to my laptop. At the time, I didn't realise there was a way to bypass it and I spent a while agonising over the whole thing _(I was seriously stressed lol)_ before finally going ahead with the Microsoft account setup. Since that time, my experiences with Windows have only made me miserable 🥹 Well, my Windows 8 experience was pretty bad too - as you can imagine... And I don't even feel sad that my current laptop is incompatible with Windows 11 - I'm just tired of being taken advantage of by this company and I want to escape. I mean, this is MY computer, for goodness' sake! Stop forcing your technological ideals on me!!! 😭😭😭😭 I'm finally looking into Linux properly because I can't take this treatment anymore.

So I use mods. Mods are scalled down on PS and Xbox systems. I do think you can use them on Mac. However interent info is you can the games to work on linux but not all the features and mods work. So I gues I am stuck with windows. I at least make my Win10 look like win 7.

I've been using linux for 12 years, most of that's been on fedora. As for distros my opinion is that they are all the same software stack with different skins and version numbers, once you have sat down and actually learned one of them you then know them all. And that's coming from someone who has applied the arch wiki to fedora and debian. Shouldn't matter what you use, pick a distro, learn how to run and manage it and enjoy it. I have also found diving into linux system administration, running servers etc that I can translate that to windows and it's subsystems. I have even helped one windows user migrate their windows 10 install to a larger SSD which this will be a shocker, required using command prompt or powershell (according to microsofts own documentation but only cmd prompt worked for adding a boot partition to uefi). What I have also learned over the years (and this is because of the larger number of technical users of linux who talk about this stuff more than there are of technical windows users) is that a problem with software can be fixed, a problem you have in most cases is ether have a missing dynamically linked library (.dll in windows) or a missing shared library (.so on linux/unix), a bad or messed up configuration file somewhere or just a missing driver that's a simple install away with a package manager or what ever the vendor provides. In the windows world 99% of the users are non-technical and never exposed to the technical side and because of this when I'm looking to solve a problem in windows that's a little bit tricky to solve, I will almost always only get a windows user on an ask page, forum or what ever replying with "just reformat and reinstall windows" because there are no technical users out there who understand the subsystems, sys utils or configurations of how windows works. So the advice to reinstall windows is given (which is a process that can take hours on 10 and 11 if you get distracted and forget to click one of hundreds of next buttons it prompts for) over potentially changing one line in a config file or installing a missing piece of software in about 5 minutes. Nah, 5 minutes for a simple fix isn't good because it's too technical, lets just loose all our software configs, copy all of our files to a backup drive and back over when the install is done and redownload all of our software and reinstall one at a time. We'll make a full day of it while claiming that we don't like "tinkering" and care about our time. Protip: if you have to reinstall windows and want your software installed fast without bloat or unwanted software installs and wizards, open up powershell, install and learn how to use scoop and install everything you use with just a few simple commands, scoop will even tell you how to use it with 'scoop help'. want to find something: 'scoop search "software name"'.

Am on Linux since Debian "Potato" 2001. For gaming am using the cheapest windows key. Since mid 2000s have two rigs, one for gaming one for work and daily driver. If the power of the gaming rig is needed can boot a linux gaming OS on it. Currently using Linux Mint XFCE on a USB 3.2 external SSD. Since windows Vista I handle Windows like any other malware infested device. In its own network firewalled off of the rest of the local network. If I boot Linux and need access to the rest I have some scripts that temporary open it up. Most single player games run with steams proton. Other networky stuff with anticheat I don't even try as I got enough account banned over the years and just run it under windows which would be basically any korean grind mmo. For daily driver used so many distributions and window managers. They all suck and are great on their own.

This is an interesting video! I still use Windows predominantly, but my home server is Linux and I have another machine with Linux Mint, and I recently installed Mint as a secondary OS on my main computer too. That was mainly a result of Microsoft's ever increasing data mining efforts. I like Linux, but I don't know what it is - whether it's me not being as knowledgeable on Linux, or every distro being different, or every *installation* being different - but what frustrates me is the number of things that go wrong when installing and running something. The amount of work that you have to put into almost anything you want to do is painful, even when following a tutorial (woe betide you if you follow the wrong tutorial or a slightly outdated tutorial!) or seeking advice online. I don't use it for the user-friendliness, I gotta admit, although Linux Mint goes a long way to being user friendly :) I use it because it isn't Microsoft, and because there's stuff like running a server or my own AI that's just better in Linux, even if the process is a lot more tortured. That's my experience, anyway =/

I'm pretty concerned about how things were done and what happened here, but this is how you learn. Nobody died, you got there in the end--nice work. That CV joint was toast, it should NOT separate like that at any point. I never heard the term "pickle fork" before, but I've always known it to be called a "ball joint fork" because it's made for removing ball joints. They can be very stubborn, even with the right tools. Also, that rust is nothing. You should see what's passable in the north.

I was using arch a long time and it's not that hard but definitely not for new users or not tech savvy people but the main thing why i am using another distro at this point is i wanted to have secure-boot working and it was too much of a pain to do it with arch linux and i got annoyed about the fact that i need to configure everything my self which can be fun and nice yes but there is always something i would configure and fiddle around stuff. So i wanted a kinda easier way to just live with my pc lol.

The reasons for why I'm here (a list of Windows 11 downsides): 1. Can't remove edge. 2. The PC is slowing down rapidly. 3. Cloud saving is bombarding me with messages that ask me to clean it up after it fills itself up for no reason. 4. Too many useless apps that I can't remove and they take up my space. 5. Half of the settings don't work for some reason. 6. The update system is what it is. 7. The searching option for files is impossible to use. 8. I'm a programmer, I can do better.
