I am in my 30s, and my little daughter asked me to say she wanna be a scientist before a few months. Then, after it came to my mind and i didn't have any idea or pathway to it as a mum. I am moving to Texas next year, and your explanation is price less to me. Thank you, Doctor.

Not really. In your first semester, you got to meet with different PIs, interview them, meet with the group members and then decide accordingly.

Madam... Does open university students have any restrictions in applying to a PhD program directly after the bachelorette due to the open and distance learning system.

As far as I know, there is no restriction. The requirement is a four year degree so it counts. That being said, sometimes in the selection process there could be higher weight for the applicants from a university that is already known. Meaning, if there are other students already in the program from that same university then they trust those places more based on current students’ performance.

Dear Madam, I am confused these days about next steps in my life. I am a fresh graduate, Chemistry (sp) with a second class upper division. All my friends are applying for PhD programmes in USA while I started applying for jobs in Sri Lanka and got fed up with the salary scale and the system where there are only less opportunities for the educated people. One of my dream was to become a boss lady with my own business one day. But at this moment I don't have an initial capital or even a business idea. Also US is my dream country too. I have no idea how to merge these two options. I mean being a business lady and pursuing a Chemistry PhD. Any suggestions from you Maam? Thank you

Thanks Nadeesha for your comment. I think, it is great that you were actually thinking of what you really like instead of following the flow. I hear you, it is not easy to find a job with a comparable salary range, in this market. Probably, it is time to put some serious thought into your passion: carefully thinking through what is the interest, what are your strengths and weaknesses, sketching a rough plan and how to execute etc. That would give you some clarity on your next step. I too think, if your interest is not for higher studies, then it would not be worth to go on that route. On the other hand, if you are considering building a business, there are areas you could consider for higher studies and that would actually give you an advantage. For example: cosmetics, formulation. I am sure you will find your way and sending best wishes 🌷
