@@andreacinefilo *SUPER MILD-SPOILERS FOR PART 2* I have my own theory on why Fiyero was the only person not affected by her poppy sleep spell. Right before they all go to sleep, Elphaba says “somebody has to do something!” and I believe all the other students that would have sat by and do nothing were the students that ended up falling asleep (which was all of them minus Fiyero). Despite Elphaba and Glinda having a very sweet friendship and Glinda wanting to do good and be a good person, she just isn’t in that mindset yet to actually advocate for doing actual good. As we see at the end of Part1, Glinda doesn’t get on the broom with Elphaba to fight against a system that we have seen to be corrupt and cruel because Glinda has benefited from that system her whole life and is comfortable and safe within it; something she knows she will no longer be if she joins Elphaba. Meanwhile Fiyero is ready to take action, not thinking twice about rebelling against Oz because he knows what’s right, even if it puts his livelyhood in danger. The classroom poppy scene/cub rescue was an early example of that. I don’t think Elphaba intentionally (or even subconsciously) only had the spell not affect Fiyero because she wanted to chose him; I believe the spell targeted everyone that didn’t have intention to actually stepping up and saving the cub.

@@lexitremely It's still a bit confusing. There's a deleted scene called "Elphaba's promise" in which Glinda says she could have helped her rescuing the cub. If Glinda was ready to take action, the spell should't have worked on her either.

@@andreacinefilo I've seen that and I think that's foreshadowing for what happens later (her saying she can help elphaba -> ends up letting her go off on her own) I don't think she is 100% lying about her desire to help her friend, but she isn't willing to put action into her words yet. Glinda says she could have helped with the cub but we don't know for sure, Glinda almost ready to go with Elphaba during Defying Gravity, but when the time came.. she backed down. I think Glinda does *want* to be the kind of person who would stand up for whats right, but she isn't there yet, narratively. So that's why I have my theory: the spell somehow knew what everyone's decisions will be in that moment, if they were truly willing to help Elphaba with her cause or not.
