How come daigo chose street fighter over guilty gear?
@mostverticalproductions48088 ай бұрын
Because GG never had the money SF did, at least outside of Japan or Daigo didn't really take GG serious like SF. He respects the series but SF/Darkstalkers is more his speed.

Why did Daigi stop playing GG? If he had put more work into it, he would have been a legend there too.
@player2185 жыл бұрын
Most Vertical Productions couldn't keep up with the pace of the game believe or it not. He was good but couldn't compete with the best, I'm sure this isn't cause he wasn't able to get to that level but mainly cause he enjoyed Street fighter more.
@mostverticalproductions48085 жыл бұрын
@@player218 to be fair, he was also pretty random in GG. You can't be there. Lot of matchups he just did wacky shit and got away with it, but against other players, they evolved, and he didn't. They took away the gun flame FRC loop from Sol in Reload too iirc.
@player2185 жыл бұрын
Most Vertical Productions also Street fighter had more profit
@mostverticalproductions48085 жыл бұрын
@@player218 that too is true. ArcSys games never had high payouts, even at Tougeki. At least he graced us with some crazy shit.

I don't know which's the most random in fighting games between Kusoru's Sol and Daigo's Sol.
@forestsavior10 жыл бұрын
The really funny thing is this is one of the rare instances of Daigo playing a Gear matchup more or less the way it ought to be played. Bridget does a lot of annoying flying around and shit that you can't really stop from the ground that well, and you basically just run from one end of the stage to the other trying to catch him with a DP into a knockdown and/or combo so he'll stop flying around so damn much. Then you just keep your life lead and you win. Course it's hard to tell with Daigo because he played pretty much every matchup this way, even the ones he really shouldn't have.
@forestsavior10 жыл бұрын
Man, it's funny now to think about how I used to be amazed by Daigo's GGXX play. (In fact, it's what got me into serious fighting game play in the first place.) He had good execution for damn sure, but he made some INCREDIBLY random decisions that weren't, like, calculatedly "random" (as though that makes sense) to fuck with people. He just does the least rational thing possible to see if it screws with people and/or hits them, with a wildly variable success rate. Only thing that really saved him was that he had his Dust Loops on lock. The Evo 2K3 footage of him is especially embarassing, both him and his opponent in GF kinda flail around drunkenly, except Daigo finishes his combos and wins basically on that alone. Not that hard to see why he fell off in #R, he clearly didn't take Gear that seriously. As the game evolved he's all like "everybody's in here learning matchups and mixups and footsies and shit and I kinda just want to DP counterhit or RC/Grand Viper RC/command grab into one absurd corner combo. Back to SF/Vampire I guess." (full disclosure: I still love Daigo and I for DAMN sure love the Dust Loop. Greatest combo ever.)

Have you seen him did 5 random volcanic and and gramd viper in a row.It's damn hilarious!

***** I'm not trying to blow up Daigo too hard. I watched videos of his play at SBO and Evo2k3 and it's clear there's at least a little method to his madness (which I hope I made clear up above...it's not so much that he's being an idiot here in casual play as he is partially fucking with people, partially figuring out the risk::reward ratio on the more YOLO Sol maneuvers. He wants to see what happens when he gets blown up on YOLO shit so he can figure out -- how badly can I be punished for doing this? And more importantly, is this player focused/practiced enough to CONSISTENTLY punish me for doing this, versus choking on the punish and giving me a reversal opportunity of my own?). And if he had stuck with the game in the long term I think he WOULD have developed his experience to the point where he's mentioned (seriously) in the same breath as Roi, Machaboo, P.C., 012, etc. His risks would have gotten more and more calculated a la his Street Fighter maneuvers rather than throwing Grand Vipers/DPs at the wall to see what sticks. But as it is, he's mostly a historical curiosity at this point -- an interesting look at the very early XX metagame, where the game was actually becoming quite playable rather than the FDC-laden one-touch mess that was GGX. (Vanilla Faust and Slayer notwithstanding.) He started from a high baseline because he had good fundamentals, great optimization, and picked a character who played VERY well to his strengths. But his drive to pursue Gear wasn't as high as others, and so he left the game before he would eventually get left behind. I watched him play Xrd on the stream as well, where he plays closer to his more-serious SBO self rather than his semi-trolly casual self. It's clear he respects the game for what it is and understands very well how it works. But in the end, he picked Street Fighter as his bread and butter over Guilty Gear (a fair enough decision, given his SF performance), so my expectation is that he'll keep focusing his training efforts on that rather than going deeper on Xrd. And again, I really don't mean to be too harsh to Daigo here. (Sorry if it looked that way). If not for the video of him chipping out Zakiyama's I-no with 4x Gun Flame FRC, I wouldn't be playing these games as seriously as I do, and I certainly wouldn't be writing essays like these. Daigo's play is still silly to watch. But I owe my serious competitive interest in these games largely to his YOLO antics. I'm not laughing at him nearly so much as I'm laughing at myself.

This was the video that inspired me to take fighting games seriously back in the twilight years of CvS2. I used to think these games were nothing but mash sweep and special moves, until I saw Daigo light up poor Zakiyama with Dust loops and Gun Flame FRC x4. (I STILL can't get more than 2 in a row). I'm finally learning GGXXAC seriously now and it just amazes me how many great design elements and decisions characterize this game. Nothing quite comes close to Gear.
