Idk how much he was paid to make this but, I switched to mac... if you are familiar with windows and know the shortcuts and hotkeys, switching to mac will be difficult. You have to relearn hotkeys, relearn shortcuts, relearn features like changing window sizes and auto fill screens, etc... you basically go back to sqaure one as far as using the computer. I thought I would eventually get used to it, but it was at that point that I realized just how entrenched I was with windows. Having to relearn dozens upon dozens of hotkeys and shortcuts that I have memorized to the point of muscle memory over the course of decades, and now you have to relearn that? Long story short, it was easier to switch back to windows than it was to relearn mac. I think he really, really understates the difficulty of the transition. Now I will say this. If you dont know or use the shortcuts or hotkeys very often, then heck yeah the mac is a thousand times better. But for me, I would run into daily inconveniances, followed by 30minutes or so of online searching to figure out how to do the thing on windows on the mac. Its a lot harder than you think. After the 10th or so time of spending 30 minutes or so of figuring out how to do something on the mac, some of which I never got answers for, I just switch back to windows. I still have the mac and my fiance uses it and loves it, but again, she doesnt use all the shortcuts and hotkeys. Put simply, if you dont know a lot about the inner mechanics of using windows, the switch to the mac doesnt hurt as much, because there isnt anything to relearn, since you never learned anything to start with. But if you regularly use hotkeys and shortcuts, such as on Microsoft word and using A;t+0167 to use the section symbol, then switching to make is going to be a tough ride.

Thanks for your thoughts. I think you may be a more advanced shortcut user than me. As mentioned in the video I was worried about that when I went over and it’s probably what I struggled with most due to the split between control and command and some shortcuts just not being there. But I don’t think any point where I was stuck. If you ever do go back to Mac then I reccomend checking out cheatsheet. You can actually see me install it at @9:54 in this video as I was just trying it out when putting this together. But it proved quite useful. It’s an app that once installed lets you hold down the command button at any point and it shows you a sheet of all the shortcuts that are available to you at that point. Not just Mac OS shortcuts but app specific ones also. It’s helped me discover lots of functionality I didn’t know was there, but also stopped me searching for things that didn’t exist.

On Final Cut Pro i run 3 displays and can always have full screen without the dock bar
@SKITHUUK17 сағат бұрын
You don’t have to have 3rd party app to hide the dock. You can easily adjust it in the settings. I recommend using disappearing dock, make it smaller, remove apps you don’t use most of the time and set animation that enlarges app icons as you go through with the cursor.
@RushRealityСағат бұрын
Thanks, it was the instant come appearance and disappearance of the dock that I got from the app instead of the animation from Apple. I do like the idea of the animation that enlarges the apps when you hover over them and might stick try that out today.

Sounds like a terrible excuse to switch to mac
@RushReality21 сағат бұрын
You might be accurate with the word excuse, but I have to say I don’t have any regrets at this point and it has solved the issues I had, even if there could have been easier ways to achieve similar ends.

@rampageblizzard8 күн бұрын
I was having a lot of audio glitches, lagging, artefacts, compression, and stuttering. Virtual desktop almost completely removed all of that, my games look so much better as well. Anyone out there looking to make the purchase, its well worth the investment.

I suggest you play Vail, it’s the kind of vr shooter that is so clean with its gunplay and everything that it makes all the other vr shooters feel worse

i think the clarity is because in steam link, your quests resolution is set to 1024x1024, 2560x2560 looks way better on standalone then it does through steam link (its not a wifi issue. ethernet 500mbps)

Watching movies in a social setting is horrific at best, in most cases, extremely annoying. I can’t believe I can’t pay to purchase proper 3-D movies.

Steam link runs smooth as butter as soon as i boot up a game. Its plug and play and i have little to no lag. However with virtual desktop all my games feel floaty and have lots of lag. Ive tweaked it for days and cant get anything right.

Virtual Desktop on Quest 3 with AV1 enabled is mindblowing, Im playing games maxed out that I thought my RTX3080ti couldnt handle, turns out it was crappy Airlink and Steam Link was 10 times worse than that. Ive been tweaking graphics to try and compensate but its this AV1 setting that does the magic, Honestly the VD developer should enable it by default in the streamer app, makes no sense not to use it. It even works with praydogs VR mods perfectly, Im playing Hogwarts Legacy and Dragons Dogma 2 and they both run great using REframwork and UEVR.
@themerote25 күн бұрын
Every game Ive tested runs even better than Link Cable, the only games that dont work are Luke Ross REALVR mods, I wish hed work on VD coz his mods have the biggest performance issues and I think he is wasting alot of time implementing his Vfov tweaks coz with AV1 that doesnt even matter. Possibly it could be AV1 doesnt work with Alternate Eye Rendering.

Thanks for making the video. There's still not enough content or applications for this product. Yes it's cool to tour the International Space Station and various cities around the world, but that gets old quickly. For specific purposes, such as a workout routine, and KZbin 3D immersive content, definitely I enjoy the product, until my neck starts to hurt from the weight of the device. It's a great product for children and young adults; impossible to find a virtual group conversation on adult topics without children flying around the room. Very difficult to use the web browser as you've got to use the pointer to type on the virtual keyboard; very frustrating experience. Thanks again for spending the time to make the video.

Unfortunately, i have a connection problem with the VD app. I install windows again, I restart the quest 3 and reinstalling the vd app on Quest 3 and the pc, but whatever I do, the vd app can't find my pc, the app problem suddenly start 1 week ago, before that I easily connect to my computer without any problem. I also don't add any app or change anything to my pc. Also, the Steam link app and air link app are working without problem, and I use them right now for my pc vr gaming. This is really ridiculous for the paid app to have this kind of problem.

I've got a question: is Virtual Desktop capable of connecting wirelessly via cable? I have a shitty wi-fi router from my ISP, which is also placed in a room far from my PC, so I believe that in my case it will have a lot of freezes while playing wirelessly.
@t3chnod3lic3 ай бұрын
This might not apply to you, but make sure your using the right codec. Just changing and trying another might improve performance. You change it using the VD pc desktop app.

I bought a Meta-Oculus Rift S one year before they dropped their support of this product. The Rift S worked well until I updated my computer. Now two years later and after a year of Meta stupid suggestions for getting my Rift S working again, it's still not working. I have a $400 paper weight that Meta refuses to fix even though they say my new computer should not be a problem. I cannot recommend buying any Meta products due to their lack of customer service and having a chance of the same dropping of older products support. Meta basically has no customer service and only lip service!
