What's the name of that cave possibly in Wales where you have to turn your helmet on its side to get through and there is normally an inch of water running past your face as you squeeze through.ive done it years ago but thought it was the cheese press cave ( done most of them

Hi thanks for sharing your experience, it's something I've been interested in for a while. Can I ask how long it took to walk to the winch site from Clapham i presume....and how long did you have to wait/queue to go down regards
@overunderabove Жыл бұрын
Hey Mark. As I recall it takes a bit more than an hour to walk up. Waiting for the winch - got there early so last time wasn't too bad - doesn't stick in the mind, so can't have been long. Have waited a couple of hours on previous trips. Definitely worth doing.

@@overunderabove - yeah sure, after getting stuck & then my hat falling off. My pal was a bit of a Captain Crash type, was in the local Mountain or Fell rescue (from DL), so he took us caving on a whim, in wet weather. Kit hire from Ingleton?.. Dr Bannisters was extra flooding; there's some pool inside that he shone his torch into the middle of to create the impression of a stone to step on & invited me casually that 'that was the way' when it was really pretty deep - over my head with the stumble. He was wet-suited-up & took to sliding down 'flue' sections with the mass of water - at one point another group (from Durham Uni I think) had to all wedge themselves to the sides as he flew past, asking "Will he be alright?" as we caught up, when Captain Crash was ALWAYS going to be alright. Funny times. The relief of surfacing again was palpable, to be told that he'd forgotten to tell anyone where we were going - when it'd been wet weather for weeks. Just, happy to be alive basically. Cheers.

@@overunderabove - this pal of mine - I just remembered how one time, drilling walls at home, he'd gone thru' a water pipe one week & hit a lekky cable 2 weeks later. Very funny bloke to know. Had a one-night stand & ended-up on some urea-based mouth ointment as his face orifice swelled-up. In hospital for a week for blowing himself up then next year for another week for jumping-off one of upper Keld's falls into shallow water - shattered kneecap. ...

I did this when I was younger. I had a send a friend first to confirm that we were going somewhere that we could stand up. One of the group refused to go through. That was my one and only caving experience and it was amazing.... the mini waterfall that we had to climb at the end was the icing on the cake.
