No disrespect but as a guitarist, I think the A and D strings need a little tuning
@NickTasy2 ай бұрын
@@MyJazzyMac It probably was a little out of tune. Also my recording method at the time wasn’t great, so the quality of the recordings was pretty bad. It’s a combination of both. I plan to redo this song at some point with better software

My guitar’s in Standard tuning here and the reason being I was too lazy to tune it down half a step to Eb Standard (which is what the song was recorded in for Jar of Flies)

That hammer-on is usually kind of difficult for me as my fingers tend to inadvertently mute it just enough so that you can’t really hear it, so I have to really be aggressive with the hammer. Indeed a great song; I want to cover it one day, but have to learn that solo first!
@NickTasy4 ай бұрын
This is probably one of my favorite Linkin Park songs. Though it’s not too flashy, Brad’s subdued fingerpicked riff really sets the tone for this stripped-down and mellow song from the days of the band’s infancy when they were otherwise loud and aggressive in their sound. It’s a super fun loop to learn and even more so to play! As Mike himself pointed out back in 2020 when the song finally got its official release for the Hybrid Theory 20 set, this song (and I would wager My December as well) really are blueprints for the band’s evolution later in their career post-Minutes to Midnight. This song is heavy on subdued and clean guitars, synths, and electronics. I think it would have been a nice B-side on Hybrid Theory much like My December is. Also, beginning at 2:52 during the bridge and outro I improv’d a bit, paying homage to XeroGuitar’s work in his cover of the song (kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3ewZJeLbtWMbac, check out his channel, it’s fantastic). He wrote that loop and I decided to add it in because I do like the sound of it.

Hey Nick, funny thing just happened. About 13 years ago I uploaded a Video on my "childhood account", about a Minecraft server i set up on my really old PC. I wasn't able to log back into that account since then but 5 years ago you wrote a comment about my nickname "overtaker23" being an inspiration to you, i literally just found that video by coincidence (you can still find it if you look for overtaker23 minecraft private server) and your 5-year old comment just made my day 😂 i just wanted to leave a thank you

Forgot to respond to this, but yeah, it’s true! I was in middle school back then, and at the time Minecraft a relatively new game. Not much creativity was flowing in my ~12-13 year-old brain but I needed a username, and having seen your video Overtake23 sounded really cool so that’s what I went with lol. Pretty random you found me and we can come together and laugh about it. Thanks for the inspiration in c. 2010 or 2011 lol

I’m playing it correctly, as it was tabbed by Linkin Park community member Astat (tab link in description). Astat is an extremely respected member who is known for tabbing the band’s entire discography as accurately as possible. I only consult his tabs for LP songs; I’m playing it correctly, although it could sound much better

Quite an unpopular opinion here by the looks of it, but I’ve always preferred Limp Bizkit’s version of this song over The Who’s original, largely because the modified chord progression in LB’s cover just seems to fit much better. I think it simplifies the song and sets the tone perfectly. It’s almost like a subtle, subdued take on the original, and Limp Bizkit’s chord progression strikes an emotional nerve with me that The Who’s doesn’t. It’s a beautiful progression which I personally don’t think was achieved as well in the original. It’s all personal preference of course!

Some things to point out here. While the album recording has only two different guitar tunings going on (s/o to Astat/LinkinParkGuitar for figuring this out), I'm playing with three different tunings here. The rhythm and octave guitars are both in Eb Standard. The first guitar playing harmonics (main frame) is tuned in Drop C#, but the high Db string is tuned down to Bb, so it's Db Ab Bb Gb Bb Eb. The second guitar playing harmonics (smaller picture-in-picture frame) isn't actually a guitar on the album recording (according to Astat), but rather a piano. Up until the release of Meteora 20, however, with the release of the "Interrogation" demo of Easier to Run, Astat believed it to be a third guitar, and tabbed it accordingly. For this third tuning, once again tune to Drop C#, and again tune the Db string down to Bb, but also tune the Ab string down to Gb; so it's Db Gb Bb Gb Bb Eb. Here’s Astat’s video demonstrating this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGPKl6dmaq5nbLMsi=sXPjVp-8vuHGpUXD.
