If you understand the Hebrew idiom of permission you'd know that the Hebrews believed that if God did not intervene to prevent a catastrophe then He was credited with CAUSING it. God didn't cause the flood but He foresaw the flood and as always actively intervened to save those who wanted to be saved on the ark. Same with Sodom and Gomorrah. God is not the destroyer but He always gets the blame. The book of Job reveals who the real monster is who destroys everything and how God gets blamed while the true culprit, Satan gets away undetected.

32:44 God should be worshipped because of His beautiful character, not just because He is the Creator. Would we worship a creature who was an unloving despot? That would be submission out of fear. True worship is based on respect.
