considering ive heard some people say this is long overdue, im gonna go on a limp and say this was probably needed 30 years ago. now 30 years later, its finally getting started but it probably needs to be very muitl-modal to make sure traffic is eventually kept low enough to last to 2040. i hope theres public transportation in alcoa, otherwise that freeway will reach max capacity as soon as it opens.

24 should be widened to four lanes in each direction in Chattanooga instead of three as you mentioned. The same for 75 between Ooltewah and Exit 20. If you're going to go these great lengths for improvement, adding just one more lane to each side is lazy and not exciting at all. Giving us four lanes on each side is an achievement worth celebrating. Starting these projects in the next year should be the goal.

No plans for any sort of alternative travel? A passenger train service would help reduce congestion too, and also not putting private companies in our public infrastructure.

Clarksville and tdot being reactive instead of proactive! They have over built houses, apartments etc. The city is gridlocked! No real room to widen roads. Dumbass shit

@5:23 anyone else spot all the cars going straight in a left turn only lane? That would be classic clarksville driving.

Hey, TDOT I’m Hunter Joyner from Nashville and I’m happy to see the Highway Incident Response Units going down I-24 in Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga in Tennessee where the fun begins and where we have fun with everything in Tennessee I bet for some Canadians of Toronto and Vancouver and Montreal and Calgary in Canada that come to visit Nashville and Memphis and Knoxville and Chattanooga in Tennessee will see the Highway Incident Response Units when they go down I-24 when they visit all the way from Canada to Tennessee that’s for sure

The other problem is people who shoot out of the open lane into the closed lane to move up 5 cars and then "zipper". I full support the zipper, but North American drivers are too entitled to actually do this.
@nispelsmАй бұрын
"Take turns" they say ... LMFAO. There is no one gonna follow that rule. You can't even convince drivers to leave a space in front of them at speed, let alone while in a slow construction zone.
@sergoogle5061Ай бұрын
This doesn't consider real time drivers and the human condition to be like "the f you are" to other people. Good presentation but limp on the overall data

Instead they get mad or try to block me.
@usmantariq7997Ай бұрын
The problem is, even if you wait till the end, some drivers just won't let you in. They will try to block you and then road rage with you if you get stuck behind them.
@Nikola16789Ай бұрын
The problem is, zipper merge is not more efficient.
@wjrneo2Ай бұрын
@@Nikola16789 It is, significantly so. It reduces the amount of space each driver must give up to another car to make room for a merging car. If you are in the non-closing lane, you only have to speed up or slow down a very little, 1 car length, to allow another vehicle to merge with your lane. But, if you force a car that's merging to have to speed up or slow down significantly to skip several cars it has a massive traffic slinking effect on the closing lane, which then impacts the non-closing lane as the cars merging into the lane are doing so at a significant speed difference. Giving up 10ft, or accelerating 10ft to create room for a car to merge in front, or behind you is the best way to do it.
@nispelsmАй бұрын
@@wjrneo2 But this is precisely why zipper merges don't work. No one is willing to give up the space in front of them, even when legally required to do so. Sometimes it's because they think others are "cutting in line", but more often it's just plain ego and stubbornness at play. They can't let someone in front of them because it means they "lost" some imaginary contest.
@Nikola16789Ай бұрын
@@wjrneo2 That's just a perceived gain. In reality, limiting factor is capacity of narrowed section which is always maximized.
@wjrneo2Ай бұрын
@@nispelsm They work more often than not, and just because poorly educated drivers don't do it, doesn't meant its not worth teaching. They never taught us to zipper merge in drivers ed in the 90's, not a lick of that. And it's something that should be taught, it should be. Honestly, if you need to merge you should find the easiest opening that doesn't cause anyone else to speed up or slow down and slot into it. Using the excuse, "I don't do it because nobody else will" is a self fulfilling prophecy.

Informational videos and using sign boards is good, but TDOT should also work with the Department of Education to reintroduce traffic safety classes (including driving, cycling, and walking) to schools to create a well-educated public.

As a student of geology, I would hope that some deference would be given to preserving the anticline and multiple fault faces just north and east of the John Sevier interchange. Infact there are many geologically interesting stops along 129. There was a rare outcrop of the Vestal Marble that lies under a bridge stanchion. Fortunately I removed some samples during excavation.

the only way to solve traffic is to provide viable alternatives to driving, i.e. public transport (heavy/light rail, intercity bus, etc.)
