The other factor with the Darleks is that they were the "Tanks" of WW2. Challenged with outright extermination the Super-Weapons engineer Davros put a powerful single energy weapon, on to an industrial mechanoid frame (our equivalent of a lawn tractor or forklift), and covered it with armour and shielding. The problem with Davros's "invention" (read obsession) is that he couldn't get a machine mind to fit into the frame, they were just too limited and too big, neither could they spare troops from the front line or support staff to risk blowing up, cooking, drowning, or otherwise dying while being stuffed inside an industrial lifter frame designed to be unmanned. Likewise, there was no way to feed or poop once the armoured hatch was closed up. Thus leading to Davros' ultimate super weapon - playing on Eugenics (as atomics had already been breached) - Davros designed an _organic_ mutation and had engineered a micro "life"-support to fit into the industrial robot frame safely tucked away from damage entirely for life kept within the artifical frame, as it had no existence or limbs to exist outside. And he gave it the sole purpose to exterminate everything that wasn't "Kaled" since he'd incorporated Kaled cells and parts of brain into the mutant to give it inherited memory and control of the frame - but he'd made one major error. He had used "us" instead of "Kalid" in his ego-maniacal teaching. And the "Darlek" decided that Kalids didn't fit in the "like us" category. The minor error, is that his super weapon had one other advantage: self-replication. After all it's an industrial frame for building things, and super-intelligent Kaled-mutant -brain in a jar to drive the thing (ie vat mutant) then there is no reason you can't insutruct them to make more of themselves. A good solution to the diminishing population of adult Kaled, who couldn't spare factories or workers to built the Tanks. So Darleks could scrounge and build themselves, without sparing manpower, and the Kaleds could continue to use full force against the Thals. Sounds like a solution that's just too good to be true.... (self-building invulnerable tanks. Just what could go wrong - it's the ultimate weapon. Right?)

I think reducing the backlash toward Rogue as just “people being mad cause it’s gay” is dumb. If rogue was a woman it wouldn’t change the fact their relationship had no build up and very little chemistry. I don’t like giving the Doctor romantic interests, River was the only one done half-way well in my opinion
@Willy_Fisher2 күн бұрын
People thinking something isn’t very well written isn’t “controversy.” People saying it was “obscene” or that such a thing shouldn’t be in a children's show - which is clearly only being said because it’s a homosexual act - is a controversy. The difference is one complaint is on moral grounds and one is not.

Classic Who was best because the Doctor was the alien outsider. He didn’t act completely human and as a child that was the thing I loved about him. Eccentric, stoic and resilient, rebellious and charming. Modern Who isn’t done right. RTD has sex on the brain and doesn’t care if he’s spoiled the Doctors character. This just drags the show down to the level of a soap opera. You do know the Doctor getting off with a human is really dodgy. Beastaility. I hate the sexual stuff in new Who. Whether it be with women or men. Proper Doctor Who died in 1989. This version is badly written fan fiction.

Since the Doctor was chameleon arched and had their biology and memories rewrote after the Fugitive Doctor, I think it's still fair for Hartnell to be the first incarnation of the actual Doctor, everything before that can be like. Negative numbers or something. I'm fine with the canon changes the timeless child brought but it bothers me that the fugitive doctor is so recognisably the Doctor, especially having a Police box TARDIS, bc that contradicts Hartnell's character arc, which is much more important to me than lore details. I like to thing the Tardis only looked like that then so "13" would recognise it as her TARDIS specifically, as it should have a working chameleon circuit. Which is a stretch but not a crazy one

If I was working with someone, and they exposed themselves - I'd be angry, frustrated, confused, unsure how to respond, especially when I was younger. I can sit here and say that what John did was "lesser" than Noel, and by all accounts Noel is much the type of person the Me2 movement is all about... But John's actions can't be dismissed as "just a bit of fun", either. Especially when he was the lead of Torchwood, he should have been stepping up, and I don't know how you could see exposing yourself as being great leadership material.

I'm still angry over the Graham Norton promo. This in-show promotion had happened on channels like Dave, but on a show like QI, it's easy to ignore it. It's annoying, but not too distracting. I, however, was fully invested in what I still regard as one of the great moments of NuWho. It was the first showing, and the writers, producers and cast had built up this terrific climax, and cliff hanger, only to have it ruined by a dancing cartoon Norton. I wonder how Matt Smith and the crew reacted? Not best pleased, I imagine. Would the BBC have done this to Line of Duty? It was clumsy, ill thought out and inconsiderate. I bet Strictly never had this happen! Kudos to Norton for tackling the complaints in such a unique way, though

If the cast and crew were so offended by John Barrowman’s behaviour on set why did it take them 10 years after the events for them to come forward to complain. Also Eve Myles threw him under the bus 😳
@jonathancampbell52313 күн бұрын
The one thing I'll say in Barrowman's defence is that there were people on the show who had just as much clout as he had or even more...and yet, his behaviour was not only tolerated, it seemed like it was condoned and maybe even encouraged a bit, if jokes are being made about it in songs and nobody is seriously reprimanding him letting alone threatening to have him fired. He clearly wasn't the only person who thought his antics were somehow okay, and he should have been disciplined or let go decades earlier but if anything was rewarded for all his crap. RTD, David Tennant and others have almost as much to answer for as he does.

Is this a case of putting Jack back in the box? nd here we have Donald Trump back then and throughout his life committing vile acts and associating with the very worst in society and this deoraved man just became President of the USA again. That's the trouble with modern day ethics and morality codes - it seems to be okay for some and not others to engage in certain ways and that in itself is probably one of the biggest cases of poor ethics. Some are jailed and others become the leaders of countries. It's really a rather sad world of pc/woke versus vile and inapproprite with no person claiming middle ground except maybe the likes of John Cleese. Whether people want too or not, nuance should apply and shades of grey. Few things ar black or white (although I would argue in some cases like Trump he's as guilty as hell) and the tendency to put all peoples and actions into such definite categories is not right nor proper delivering of justice.

With Noel Clarke it is still officially just allegations and most of the charges- rightly or wrongly- have been dropped due to lack of evidence, and Clarke is suing news outlets for defamation with a judge agreeing his case was valid and could proceed to court. With Barrowman, it isn't allegations- it is widely known and he wasn't hiding it, in fact he was openly flaunting it and it wasn't a secret, so unlike Clarke there is no ambiguity and the controversy is partly over how much his behaviour was tolerated. With Clarke, most of what he allegedly did happened behind closed doors rather than on-set. The difference is that one set of accusations are actually accusations that have been denied, whereas the others are unquestionably matters of fact and have actually been admitted to.
@SpiderBatFan4 күн бұрын
I think the thing about Jack/John for me is it’s a massive shame that the lead character of one of the show’s spin offs and one of the most popular characters of the show will now be ignored forever, and by extension anything that has him in it will be as much as they can too, especially for content they make for KZbin and social media. Literally all John had to do was admit what he did was wrong and give sincere apology to all he did it to and in front of, instead he just called it “tomfoolery” and tried to deflect, making it something it wasn’t. Like in one of his interviews he tried to say it slipped out during the shooting of scenes he was naked for, for doctor who or Torchwood, even though we know it wasn’t those occasions, like with Annette being a witness to his flashing when she wasn’t in bad Wolf.

That’s fair but there were certainly people being very loud about the fact their specific complaint was the same sex aspect of the relationship. I also don’t think all relationships are the same. As in it’s significant to see same-sex relationships given space in mainstream media as they’ve been ignored for so long which kind of over rode my annoyance at all the snogging.
@Willy_Fisher2 күн бұрын
Ever since he started having romantic relations, he’s been making flippant references constantly about having all sorts of romantic relations with all sorts of people(usually historical figures.) I’m not overly keen on all that sort of thing myself but I think you shouldn’t be acting as if the dr falling in love is some rare thing that only has happened once or twice in his life. Rose and river song are important because they’re important to the dr (and are made important to the audience) not because he so rarely falls in love. Half of river songs whole modus operandai is having a million lovers. Does that make it less important? No, because that isn’t how people work. The value of love is determined by how much it means to the people doing and receiving the loving, it’s not supply and demand. Likewise if rose and river song were actually important to you outside of it being a one-off gimmick you wouldn’t care if the dr had a shag every week.

I believe someone reported that Barrowman still kept his "jokes" when filming Arrowverse shows (where, coincidentally, he had several "deaths" and kept coming back, even between shows), meaning that the only lesson he learned was that he should stop doing that once someone complains, but if noone does... well. That said, he was promptly removed from some live experience show he recorded lines for, as well as his final (for now anyway) Big Finish Torchwood appearance, alongside David Tennant's Doctor, was swept under the rug just days until planned releae and is still unreleased as of now...
