What a fantastic talk from a humble but erudite professor, his lover of nature and science, and fellow scientists who shaped his career in every word, every smile, and every chuckle. So inspiring.

I love all animals including insects. Because Rachel Carson taught us in her book THE SILENT SPRING in the year 1962. American virologist Jonas Salk said : " If all the insects were disappear from the Earth, within 50 years, all life on Earth will end. If all human beings disappeared from the Earth, within 50 years all forms of life will flourish. "

began lecture on 2/19/23 at 11:55am-1:58pm The first half of the video shows people who were close to the speaker and who have been influenced, inspired, and mentored by him. They show their respects and talk of their memories. I loved the inclusion of his students that he works with and how they discuss the things that he studies, evolutionary biologist and paleontologist who studies fossils and moluscs. He begins his speech by acknowledging the influence from his partner Edith and everyone for how he has come, and where he has benefited. Talks about the beauty of science, the beauty of shells and how these are animals and was so mesmerized as a youth, and through time began to see the challenges and complexity in evolution, powered by questions when not animated by the beauty. He begins to talk about different evolutionary and historical aspects in biology such as enemy selection in the evolution in evolution, organism respond to selection from enemies, and have agency, create and modify their own environment, modify the world that they inhabit, social and group hunting dynamics. I also liked that he compared these patterns to humans and asks, are we really that different? From there he began to take about sustainability and human responsibility as the monopoly species. After his speech, one of my favorite portions of the even was the poem that was read (google form did not work for me so I am commenting here)

We need to know what the specifications for an ideal homemade mask might look like. The public needs information on this one aspect of social distancing and getting the economy restarted. All the high tech discussion of chemistry and cellular biology are great, but we need "the mask question" answered with some authority even if the answer is "we honestly don't know".

I didn't catch exactly how interesting this is the first time I watched it. I'm curious to know what the purpose of Protein A is for Staphylococcus Aureus. It doesn't cause conformational change when binding to the antibody, so I'm assuming its doesn't aid in immune evasion (or does it?).

Can anyone explain why at 10:07 he uses HPO4 concentration .0066 instead of H2PO4 0.0134? I thought you would want to neutralize the H2PO4 with the KOH to get to the remaining HPO4?
