I'm not even a Go player. I'm actually learning how to write/roleplay and feel like I've hit a brick wall recently.. Or more accurately, stepped onto a sinking platform of some sort. I literally just typed "getting worse with practice" (thinking it was some sort of medical condition and I can find a way around it), and youtube led me to your video. That concept of Knowledge Saturation and your solution on how to deal with it is 100% still applicable to my current situation. I think I'll try and do that focused thing you recommended. Even if this was for a board game... Thank you, this still helped me somehow😂👌

one of the coolest things about games and, really any sort of passion, is how universal these types of experiences are haha! So glad you found some help, I'm no stranger to brick walls when learning! Best of luck on your writing, I'm rooting for ya!

Hey, I want to stream a series of progressive learning sessions in Go on Twitch, would you be willing to collaborate with me on this? I think your instructions are clear and concise, exactly what I need, but I've never played Go. I'm thinking we can share my screen with the game board, and then you & I show our face on the left of the screen and you can talk me through the gameplay & what to prepare for as a novice in this game. What do you think?
@InSente2 ай бұрын
Hey! I would love that, but unfortunately I am currently living in Mexic without access to my streaming equipment - so it'll have to wait a while unfortunately (see me latest video for the whole story) lol. But I'm always open for collabs, you can shoot me a direct message anytime!

I never commented but I watched your video with passion to improve my game and you even conviced me to buy "Lesson in the fundamental of go", I haven't been playing much but I always think of getting better eventually and also thinking about you and your struggle. Thx you for the lessons and I hope your transition was as smooth as possible ! If you ever come back I will be watching (when even that happends). And you you don't come back at least you are happy and that is enough for me.
What you said about “remembering that games are supposed to make us live better lives” is so wise. It brings to mind the Paul Morphy quote that “The ability to play chess is the sign of a gentleman. The ability to play chess well is the sign of a wasted life.” (Morphy was one of the chess GOATs so what he considers playing “well” probably lies outside of any of our comprehension). But also like you say in the video, there’s so much to be learned about the outside world from a game like Go and I believe it was a Go master who said that almost everything important in life he’d learned from the game of go. I think you have a really healthy integrated perspective where you are able to say things like how sometimes you need to choose the right move regardless if they align with your emotions, borrowing from your game experience - and yet you clearly lead a colorful life which gaming supplements instead of consumes. Just some thoughts - like everyone else here your videos have been a godsend on my Go learning journey and I wish you a happy life 😊
@InSente2 ай бұрын
I absoluely love that quote! It's so wise, and I appreciate so much your kind words! I'll continue to try to take what I've learned with me, and maybe this can lead to even cooler Go content in the future!

I came across your channel via Shut Up and Sit Down while I was going through transition, and I to this day have never played a game of Go in my life! Trans lives are so relentlessly evaluated -internally and externally (unfortunately!) and it's lovely to see you unshackled from the past. It's a nice feeling to grow into yourself, hey :) You don't owe anyone, any thing ¡vive tu mejor vida!

"games are supposed to help us live better lives... if we sacrifice our life for the game, we're not learning the lessons we need to learn" - This is something I've needed to learn as well and it almost hurts to hear. After doing more journalling in Obsidian, I realised that there were other parts of my life that needed attention over my 12-ish year obsession with the game and I've hung it up as a result. On the one hand, it's a relief because as a hobby Go is very very demanding in order to keep your skills as sharp as possible and so now there's so much more I can do with my time. But it's also really sad because I've dedicated a non-insiginificant proportion of my on this planet to this game and I didn''t want to give it up, but it's the best play for me right now I feel.
@InSente3 ай бұрын
I know, it's a hard decision. But honestly - maybe you'll be like me and come back to it. The most beautiful thing about this game is it's like an old friend, always here, and never changing, even if I have to leave for a bit to take care of things. I personally hope to return when I can foster a balanced relationship with it, and don't lose hope, maybe you can too!

Go has always been a side passion of mine. Since I was directed to you at the suggestions of a friend, I've found myself at 31, started transitioning, and have been doing my own soul searching.
