I'm pretty sure I have less than 5 hours on one of these engines and it's seeping oil from under the where it mates to the frame.
@PostRt10 күн бұрын
@MovementofTension I would not be surprised if it has the same issue. The lower pan gasket of the engine case is known to give out on these. If you plan to repair it, make sure to get the new, updated part number. My tractor is still going strong and without any oil leaks since this repair was performed.

Is anyone aware of frame kits available for the last series of Toyota Pickup? I've been looking for kits to fit the 1988-1995 4x4 with single cab. but I've had zero luck locating anything for the frame on the series. Please let me know if anyone has any info on availability. Thanks in advance.

I don't know of any companies other than Autorust. They make plate sections for a variety of vehicles, but as far as Toyota trucks, it is 1995 and up. You could reach out to the company and ask. They have been in the market for a long time. Maybe the 1995 and up Tacoma pieces could work with some modifications? Hopefully, you can find a solution!

My 2000 Tundra frame has significant rust (shocker, huh?) and it appears to have started where the factory riveted two channels together at the rear of the truck. I feel like your doubler plate plug welded and stitched around the perimeter is going to have the same effect, trapping moisture between the two layers. Anybody out there with insight on that?
@PostRtАй бұрын
My plates are treated and then coated with an internal frame coating to protect them. On top of all of that, I am adding a fluid spray coating. There will be three layers of protection over my work. Even if left uncoated, having the repair last another 20 years would be plenty for me and my needs. My repair will last a VERY long time. Great question though!

@johannriedlberger4390Ай бұрын
@@PostRt I have cut the windshield out today. There is only rust in the top part but not in the sides or in the round corners. But it is missing a bigger section than in your truck. There are even rusty holes up to half an inch that goes around the edge to the roof. Maybe the roof will warp a bit when welding. Not a big issue because the truck is 6 feet high and no one will see it. Most important is to get it watertight and stop it from further rusting.
@PostRtАй бұрын
@johannriedlberger4390 Oh man, good thing you are taking care of it now. At least the roof metal is more accessible to repair. The lower corner rails are tricky to get to and consist of multiple layers of steel. Good luck with your repair!
@johannriedlberger4390Ай бұрын
@@PostRt I am lucky that in my car the backside of the windshield channel is quite access-able so I will be able tot give it a coat of primer too. I was unsure if I choose TIG or MAG welding. But I decided for TIG because it is the cleaner process an avoid spatter. Just fixed my simple TIG machine today and ordered a new hose and torch for it. The better one is too big with chiller and watercooling to move it to the car port. It does not need to be pretty just waterproof. No one uses a ladder to watch the roof :-)

@PostRt2 ай бұрын
Not that much weight, really. It is not enough to turn it into a gas sucking tank or anything like that. Honestly, the rust removal was weight reduction, so I added material back and a some extra. I wouldn't recommend adding a quarter inch thick plate or something like that! Keep the material close to the OEM spec thickness.

I'm at this very stage of modifying the tire carrier to make it fixed the boxed frame. How did you shape the lower support bracket to get around the leaf spring hanger? I mimicked your design for the upper bracket, but am not sure about the lower one. Also, how did you bend the lower reinforcement plate that you welded to the bottom of the tire carrier crossmember? The curve is so gentle that I'm afraid to use the bending die (that I also copied fro you). Thanks!
@PostRt4 ай бұрын
@turtleboy428 I am flattered! Once the upper brackets are installed, use some template paper to wrap around the frame to the lower side of the tire carrier bracket. It is a tricky piece to bend. I used a hammer and a dolly to ease the bends whilst cranked down in my bench vise. The lower carrier reinforcement was made out of a thinner steel, so it was easy to bend by hand; a gentle curve is all you need. Weld/tack it on the end, then clamp it along the curve as you go.

First of all, genius idea. I never even thought about doing this. I was just about to pull the trigger on either buying that special 0400 spool, or buying another spring. I thought about trying another idea from a different video about putting 3 washers instead of one, but I have a soldering iron and decided to give this a try first. Luckily I have a spare just in case I screwed this up. First try and I 'welded' the plastic together. Not the prettiest, but it works. One tip for others from my own experience. I didn't get the holes 100% lined up as I was soldering the 2 pieces together and the recoil was very tight. I then used a drill to even the hole out so that it spins freely. Thank you again for your amazing tip!!
