Thanks John, much appreciated. I used to fly up to up Aberdeen on a regular basis for work on the rigs and the occasional week in an office. I really like the architecture of the city but the grey sky and grey buildings for days on end can apparently get people depressed. Some nice pubs as well. Nice to see the old film of the city to see it has remained the same. I hope you have a prosperous New Year.

I'm 43 and have lived here all my life. 20yrs ago Newport was actually the crime capital of the UK, mostly violent crime and drugs. It did seem to improve around the time of the Friars walk being built, but since 2020, it's level of drug crime has increased 10 fold

I have lived in various parts of the UK but was born and am back living in Leicester. Wherever I have been, there has always been a vocal minority of residents who make negative comments about where they live and I see that there are comments here in that regard. There are lots of things going on in Leicester but I do have to agree that there is a lack of greenery in the city centre. I have never before heard that Leicester has more than its fair share of adulterers - perhaps I had better keep a better lookout for such activities! I have always resided in the suburbs, wherever I have lived, but I suppose I might have a less rosy picture of Leicester, if I lived in one of the terraced houses that ring the immediate proximity of the city centre.

Leicester has become a complete shithole. First-world people move out, third-world people move in, result, it's now a shithole and a disgrace to the East Midlands. I am very glad that I was one of the first-world people that moved out.

Well I’ve lived in Wakefield all my life, I’m 33, For me personally Wakefield is stunning, but the amount of drugs smack zombies everywhere, They’ve closed all the chemists in housing estates so all the addicts end up at boots all day stealing and causing havoc’ The city itself is pretty, it literally takes 5 minutes out of Wakefield city to be surrounded by nature! Jobs are sparse, progression is non existent! And it’s pretty much a lawless state! Like you said 3% conviction rate! We’re constantly failed by services, Trinity walk tore Wakefield into two! The ridings almost collapsed 4 times! But buyers kept investing, now the bottom floor is ruined because the council cannot get planning permission!! We have no community spirit, we have no market, We have hundreds of takeaway, barbers, basically laundering fronts EVERYWHERE!! The drug problem is far beyond a crisis! We have people pretending they are homeless hounding you outside Sainsbury’s, yet they are nowhere to be seen when it lovely and sunny outside! they aren’t there when the weather is crap, which is about 90% years the time! The city itself has tons of potential, but the money just doesn’t hit where it’s needed!

Hi am moving to Wakefield next month and am not really hearing anything good about the safety so is it’s really a good place to live in?
@Diasy-dukes2 ай бұрын
@ it’s the same everywhere in England now, good places, bad places, Like I said Wakefield is stunning, it’s just a majority in the city seek to be at the level of gross suffering nobody wants to see whilst shopping, you can’t even enter Sainsbury’s without getting harassed by so called homeless folk, yet Morrisons and other shopping markets don’t have that issue, you learn to navigate basically

The M4 west section from 15 to Wales was opened first and I remember it being 1972 actually. It all was completed in 1971 opening in 1972: Took a trip on it with my parents west towards Wales and I know what year that was ! A car lost its roof baggage just as it got down the slip road. Wichelstowe was Swindon's front garden and I don't think they even put any proposals in for a further junction. It only got talked about as has having a service station at Spittleborough. Junction 15 was and still is Plough Hill interchange NOT Baydon. Despite bimbos putting up a new sign just because they've built a new housing estate nearby of that name. It used to be the A345 and ran into Swindon as Marlborough Road then Queens Drive. Now all roads into town have been renumbered as they apparently are less important routes!!😮 A419 taking over the A345 instead of heading to Hungerford. That now is the B4192! On Spittleborough junction 16 that was once the A420. Now A3102 to Calne. The A420 still goes to Oxford but has been split in two now. Starting again near Chippenham! Crazy I say !!

Toothill got abandoned. No 1 used to go through Freshbrook and Toothill into town before cross town routes came about. I'm not happy about that. We had a number 2 bus as well. Swindon and District ran with Thamesdown on these services. Then Stagecoach took over former Swindon and District routes owners being Cheltenham and Gloucester with before that Bristol. I wish we still had double deckers dominating the town but at least here in Toothill we have a mix with Stagecoach with their Scanias and remaining Alexander bodied Dennis Tridents. AXL400 style. As for the bus boulevard. A total waste of money. The council should of looked at bus stations like the one in Swansea. Massive space for the buses. Passengers under cover. Like I encountered on Jersey on a smaller scale. Sliding doors opening when the driver wanted his passengers to board, therefore no exhaust gas entering the building. Behind it a massive shopping centre called the Quadrant. Beautiful! We have loads of space to create a similar scheme, but alas , stuck with Fleming Way bus stops in a lower road. Total crap!!

I visited Newport twice. Once in 1955 to watch Wales schools play a touring South African schools team. We won. The second time in 1963 when I saw Newport beat New Zealand. Never got further than Rodney Parade. Today, via computer in California I watched the Dragons { please just call them Newport and dress them in Black and Amber} beat the Ospreys!!! Ex-Merthyr boy me.

My grandparents lived in Newport and I always loved going there. Yes, it has its faults as do all towns and cities, but overall the positives easily outweigh the negatives. Star of the show has to be the Transporter Bridge but there's also St. Woolos Cathederal, the stunning views from Ridgeway, the canal (disused for boats but still open for lovely walks), the Market, Roman remains at Caerleon (part of the city of Newport) and much Victorian housing, full of character and home to great communities. No family left there now but I still consider it a bit of a second home and occasionally enjoy going back.
