How do I reprocess a batch that didn't set? I messed up and didn't add enough sugar and I didn't add the lemon juice because I had already used lemon juice when boiling down my pear scraps. Need help please.

I did this last year with sweet pickles that I canned for a friend. It worked fabulously. I am in the middle of doing exactly the same thing again this year. I also soaked my slices in salt water to draw out some of the liquid from cucumber. Rinse them then let them drain well then pack them.

Yeah, an uncooperatie heifer, you just don't need. Takes too much of your time trying to get her to do what you want. I like the portable shed. You can drag it around and face the direction you want it to face. That's a good idea! Hope you figure out what to do with the open heifers. From experience, that can be aggravating sometimes, but thanks for the video. Y'all have a good day.

I haven't gardened for a very long time myself, but I used to always like fried green tomatoes, so my mom would fix some of those... and I understand there's always something to do in the garden. To me, seems like there were never enough hours in the day. I always enjoyed it though. I never tried growing any squash that you dry, nor watermelon. Never enough room for pumpkin, but I always like to garden. You got a lot of green tomatoes to take care of. Good luck to you...

Chicory, dandelion, alehoof, and narrow and broadleaf plantain are just a few examples of the edible and medicinal plants that grow all around us. I like to look for useful plants that I know even when I’m not actually looking to gather any. I think it’s good practice of an important skill, and it also tends to bring me a feeling of gratitude that there is food growing right in my yard that I didn’t have to grow. #edibleplants #medicinalplants #herbs #foraging #chicory #dandelion #alehoof #plantain #plants #homestead #gratitude

Any suggestion on the best fruit to use? Everytime i make jam with fruit, all i taste is sugar and not the fruit that i used
@rugglesridgefarm3264
@rugglesridgefarm3264 10 ай бұрын
There is definitely a lot of sugar in this recipe, but I find that I can still taste the fruit. I think the most important thing with any kind of fruit is making sure it has good quality and flavor to begin with, which ideally means using fruit that is in season. A “fresh” peach from the produce section in the middle of winter will never have the flavor and quality that a fresh peach from a local orchard in summer will have. That being said, I realize not everyone has access to that, so I think the next best thing is using a decent quality frozen fruit. As far as specifically what kind of fruit, my personal favorites are strawberry and peach, but of course it’s all personal preference 😊 what kinds have you tried?

@@rugglesridgefarm3264 thanks for replying! I've done mango, blueberry and apple thus far. I like to put habenero in them to give it a little kick. Something akin to a pepper jelly. I'm not too happy with the apple tho. I used red apples. Should've gone for a stronger flavor apple like granny smith. Live and learn I suppose 😊 have a blessed day

No problem, thank you for watching! Those sound great 😊 I’m not big on hot stuff, but I do want to try making blueberry jam this year. I’ve never made apple jelly, but I agree a more tart apple would probably give better results. Best of luck, you have a blessed day as well!

According to my taste the ideal jam is Coronation grape jam, but make sure to buy 'Coronation' grapes as they are different than Concord grapes. Coronation are smaller, and have tiny little seeds that you can completely ignore (unlike the larger seeds in concord grapes), and they are so naturally sweet, you will wonder if you should even add sugar, HOWEVER, sugar acts as the thickening agent in the jam, so yes, you need some. There are a variety of different recipes on the web that use various amounts of sugar, (frankly the sugar ratio is all over the map). I recommend adding the sugar one cup at a time until you get the desired product. I use 'cane' sugar , as it has a bolder flavour and you can use less. I use an old recipe no longer available on the web which adds sugar in a 2 to 1 ratio, 6 cups of grapes to 3 cups of sugar, BUT I make it with much less sugar, about 1 cup of cane sugar to 4 or 5 cups of grapes (depends on the grape sweetness which can vary). I find it has an excellent grape flavour, and the sweetness is not over-powering whatsoever using my ratio; plus I add 2 tbsp of lemon juice. The Coronation grapes alone will be a bit runny in the jar, so I add some Certo liquid pectin, 170 ml seems to work fine for 20 metric cups of jam, i.e. about 20X 250ml jars. Happy Jamming!
