Thanks for this video Mark it has been very useful. I shoot real estate for a living in the UK, and have just done still photography up to now. An increasing number of clients are now asking for video, which isn't a problem as I've blogged for a long time and can use Premiere Pro without thinking. However, I've got a 'big' video shoot coming up of a high-end country house, and using my D850 for video just won't cut it - I've tested it on video with the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 and 35mm f/1.4 and the autofocus was sh!te - constantly 'hunting' and larger corrections than really necessary (yes, I know the D850 was not really a video DSLR, but was just trying it for suitability) Looking at getting a Z6 II or a Z6 III to use purely for video, with the two Sigma lenses & an FTZ adaptor. This extensive video has now convinced me that the face-tracking autofocus works a treat, and my focus-hunting issue must be down to the camera body choice rather than the lens ability to focus smoothly. Thank you.

Z6II Is not up to the task, only a Z6III, Zf. or Z8/Z9 will do it for consistent video auto focus.

Why do you call them elitist lenses. So is it because they're expensive or well made or top quality does that make them elitist? Manny photographer shoot primes because they're much more clean and accurate than those images taken with a zoom. I would imagine that you don't own the plena?
@MarkHummerNikonZ9Ай бұрын
What I said was that I have owned and do own many Primes Nikon and Sigma . I owned the Nikon 50mm F1.2S lens but found other better value for money options. And traded it in for those. After all it even has a name. (Plena), just like the (Noct) 58mm F0.95. And that was after giving the lens multiple compliments on its build, bokeh and rendition. I have owned the Sigma 135mm F1.8 Art prime and at half the price I was suggesting some of you could be overspending unnecessarily. So please a little context would be appreciated. I never suggested anyone was stupid for buying a quality Prime as I have purchased many high-end lenses myself.

@@MarkHummerNikonZ9 Thanks Mark. Many of us get sensitive because the Sony and Canon shooters will even stating that Nikon was in such financial disarray that the company might go bankrupt. Obviously Nikon builds scientific equipment so cameras is not even its primary form of revenue. These comments actually annoyed many of us long time Nikon fans. I own the 51.2 the 85 1.2 and just purchased the Plena. You came up in my recommendations so I started watching your video and it just seemed that your choice of words by calling many of these lenses elitists was a little offensive since just because they're expensive and well made doesn't actually make them elitist. I do enjoy your channel and will continue watching apologies if I became a little oversensitive but the Nikon bashing went on for many years which left a very bad taste in many of us loyal Nikon fans.

Excellent video but what is the maximum length of lens you would use in this setup.
@MarkHummerNikonZ92 ай бұрын
It's more about weight than length but regardless I. Would suggest 50mm is the most ad after that you would introduce to much potential vibration. A 24- 70 F2.8 would be highly recommended.

I recently retired and have decided to invest in a camera system. I have done some research and it appears that Sony makes Nikon, Fuji, and hasselblad sensors as well as their own. Cannon appears to make its own sensors. What made you choose Nikon over Sony or Cannon. Or am I asking the wrong question. Thanks. Jim.
@MarkHummerNikonZ96 ай бұрын
Your question is valid. However, the different results you get relate so much more to the collective experience than just one component the sensor. It also has to do with the programing, firmware, ergonomics and color science and lens options. So, for me I prefer the entire feel and package that Nikon provides it`s not just about one part. Neither any one brand is superior it`s just a matter of feel and person preferences.

@m.maclean89117 ай бұрын
I was amazed at how much smaller the Z 24-70/2.8 is compared to the F mount version ... and you call it "chunky"? I find it quite small and light mounted on my Z9. My F mount D850+grip+24-70/2.8 is twice the size of the Z9 equivalent. The size and weight savings are huge. It is certainly better for me than carrying a bunch of primes around and then have to swap lenses. Carrying around several primes rather than one pro zoom would be more clunky in my bag. You can always set f/2.8 lenses to f/4 but you can't set f/4 lenses to f/2.8. If you don't need f/2.8 then of course don't buy the better lens. If you don't buy a lot of the unnecessary accessories (that I have never needed) you can invest more money in your lenses, or buy more lenses.
@MarkHummerNikonZ97 ай бұрын
It's all about your personal use case. If most of what you do are portraits primes are best regardless of practicality. However if your shooting groups and landscapes then the zoom rules.

Mark, I do agree with you on aperture of 6.3 and why not 5.6 in the new 600 PF lens? Initially I was expecting it to be 4.5 or at least 5.6 f stop to upgrade from my 500 PF for my z8 but now I feel not worth any more to spent so much for just extra 100ml and 6.3 lens
@myketripp38388 ай бұрын
Since my last comment a couple weeks ago, I've acquired the Z 600 f/6.3 and I can't tell you how much I love this lens. Its size and weight are what I was looking for and I don't question its build quality. Usually, I shoot with the Z9 and it is very manageable ... I had it out for about three hours (handheld) and could have stayed out longer. With the Z 600PF mounted on my Z7ii, it is definitely my "zoo day" setup, weighing just 4.6lbs! There's no disputing the Z180-600 for its cost and very compatible images to the Z 600PF, when not pixel peeping. But, I am so happy with my choice and feel my copy is worth the investment into this quality S-line prime lens.

Liked your presentation very much, thank you! You got into great details presenting every problem which a photographer can get in while being in the field, even if they don't own a z9. Keep up the great work and the Z6 is indeed a very underrated camera because of its unique CFExpress slot, I bought mine very cheap too!

First time I've seen your video. Thank you. Hopefully, you'll be able to do a z180-600 vs z600pf comparison. So far, I'm hearing the z180-600 has a "sweet spot" (from new users) at the 500mm range, therefore better than the max of 600mm. I would be interested to see if you could confirm or deny this. Again, thanks, and well done.

@@MarkHummerNikonZ9 interesting. How do you find them for video? I found the AF to be very "snappy", the Sigma f-mounts couldn't do the smooth zoom transitions I use for AF on the S mount. The other side of that is, manual AF on S mount lenses is horrendous.

Lots of highly informed and pragmatic advice, but buried in one long video with a narrow title (135mm review). Great material deserves more, smaller, focused videos!
