81-87 Slant sixes had hydraulic valve lifters, old sound is gone. Best part is not having to adjust valves every 20,000 miles. Hint: Most people didn't. Hence more odd noise, less fuel economy, power and more pollution.

Nice truck I used to have a 1986 it had the slant 6 . Chrysler should have kept building that motor and made it fuel ingredient like Ford did with the 300 6 cylinder.
@timothykeith13673 жыл бұрын
Chrysler should have redesigned the cylinder head by 1980 and found a way to make the slant six fit into the slant six, but more than 25 hp improvement would have changed the entire top end. If they had known that they would own Jeep they might have made the Jeep 4.0 the standard six.

Richard Bailon here. Really clean nice 83 you have. I have a 82 4x4 white with blue interior just like yours. My grill needs replacing; Do you know if a 93 grill would interchange and bolt on my 82 with out any issues? if it would work, where did you get yours from? Any help would be appreciated as I need new instrument guage cluster and my guages to work. Thanks much

Nice truck!! Didint know you could swap the front grille. Can you put an older front grille on a newer one too?
@timothykeith13673 жыл бұрын
You need the front radiator support panel, or you need to modify the headlight bucket location.

I run a executive car company, I have a 1972 Imperial Lebaron, 1979 New Yorker Fifth Avenue, 1997 Lincoln Town Car. The New Yorker is a work horse! It is by far our most requested ride. When we pick up pilots at the airport they all get a kick out of the lighted opera windows in the New Yorker. I see from this video that this feature was only on the Fifth Ave Edition, as yours has outside opera lamps. You have a beautiful car. I am considering to convert mine to fuel injection, for longevity. Smooth idle, and better milage. Nice video

My first brand-new car was a '79 New Yorker (base model, not a 5th Ave). Dove Gray with the red velour interior, and I was just 22! What a GREAT driving car- handled like no other American sedan at the time. Would love to have another one like it, but an R-body is a very rare sight today.

They say some slant sixes get 30 MPG's. What's the last year they made the slant six in a truck? I thought it was 1983 I wonder it it's possible to get 20+ MPG's on a slant six with upgrades like a lighter aluminum performance intake manifold, ignition coils and fuel injection?

I recently bought a 79 New Yorker in Spinnaker white with the red cloth an vinyl interior. I am the third owner. The man i bought it from is from New York and his grandfather bough the car new in March of 1980. Apparently his grandfather bragged about getting a deal on the car since it had been on the dealer's lot since July of 79. The car has 21,700 original miles. His Grandfather never drove the car much and it sat up for many years so my car is in the same position as yours.

@@Mr.Beastforpresident The motor needed a new cylinder head and it was in the technology gap years where EFI was still an expensive upgrade. The advertised compression ratio was 8:1 but most 225s measure about 7:1. With 8.5 CR or better the extra torque would have helped fuel economy and made the power feel closer to the 318. Using higher compression would have benefited from a modern ECU - which really didn't exist. Customers were still hurting from the Lean-Burn system which often caused drivability problems it was supposed to eliminate. Easier said than done, they explored options to extend the production life of the slant six. I think that trucks weren't selling well and Mopar had gone front drive by then making it economically impractical to update the slant six enough to make a difference. GM also killed off its venerable inline six truck motor.

I have the same truck an motor I’m wondering how did you restore it I been trying to get mine restored where did you get yours done?
@brettgoddard85896 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael! Yes..I have had this truck since 1997...'Sam' was a service truck of some kind..(maybe for the phone company?...)I had the work done mechanically first...just had my trusted mech.go thru all systems..including replacing the rear springs...he says that the engine #'s says the the engine is from the 1970's! Who knows...also this truck has been in a broadside accident again before I had it...So first just had my mechanic go over everything on "Sam'...then off to the body shop..(Mecosta Co. Body Shop in Morley MI)..they did a decent job altho I'm not totally impressed with their work...had the bed Rhinolined and new gas filler assembly as well...all new brakes all new fuel lines put carpet in the inside (he didnt come with carpet originally)also had the interior painted...again my body guys didnt notice some runs in the paint and had to take 'Sam' back a couple of times...they also could have wet sanded him better...also had to buy a new radiator support from a junkyard for the newer grill...(couldnt find a decent replacement 1983 grill)...think tho he turned out OK you think Michael?
