I wanted to pop by and thank you. This was the first soap tutorial I ever watched and it set me on the path to having my own soap business. I am now making botanical soaps with herbs from my garden and last year I netted almost $10k. It's a lot of work going to county fairs and whatnot but it's fun nonetheless. So THANK YOU.

I agree, no need to bevel the edges. Better to showcase being homemade.

I'm South African, Rooibos tea is what we are weaned onto after milk as babies. It's naturally sweet and caffeine free. It's full of antioxidants and so good for you. I also make a natural Rooibos soap and it is so gentle.

What is the ph level of the soap?

I like that scale! Absolutely the only reason you don't want to use a 50/50 lye/water ratio is many scales do not measure to the thousands which can result in too much lye causing crustiness being lye heavy. Looks like your scale can (?) do it. if I had it I'd try it. I love cocoa butter much better than shea. It goes in all my batches. Great looking soap by the way.

Well, one of the reasons I'm here is that we too have an autistic son. One of my great concerns is how he will find his way in this world and how will he maintain a job. SSI will never provide or be enough to assist with his survival and even more, he's so capable but will struggle in a "typical" work setting. Thank you!

Wonderful! I may give this a whirl (pun intended) tomorrow! Any substitution for the sweet almond oil? Also, I’ve no cocoa butter. May I just use shea?

I just wanted to point out that lye / sodium hydroxide can be dangerous to work with and can cause burns, so it's very important to wear plastic gloves and long sleeves while working with it. Eye protection such as goggles is also recommended. Also, try to not breathe it in while working with it and keep it away from children. Thank you so much for sharing this soap recipe! I have trouble finding natural, moisturizing soaps here in Switzerland and so, as a chemist, I have been considering making my own. Your video is very helpful and it looks like a great way to begin the journey of homemade soap-making! :)

Can i double the recipe ?
@FM-id7lzАй бұрын
This sounds wonderful. When I run the numbers in soapcalc, I get 190 water and 80 lye. Your recipe is 150 water and 67 lye. Why is there such a difference? I left the water as percent of oil weight at default 38%. Did I do something wrong?
@loriw.9653Ай бұрын
Default is for hot process soap. Cold process uses less water. Also the superfat percentage may affect the water/lye ratio. I have found Sarah's recipes to be great as written.
