Hey, great trip. I'm, thinking of doing a similar route in 5 weeks time. .. Is dried camping meals easy to purchase, or did you take a lot with you at once? In the highlands can you purchase food etc at shops and camping spots?
@audreytracks5 ай бұрын
In the towns you can get food, even dried meals. When you go into the highlands make sure you have food for a few days in your bags. There are some points you can buy snacks. I didn't stay at campsites.

Thanks for warning me to never visit this ugly country. Still I appreciate the hard work you have done for us. I could see nothing interesting that can not be found in more civilised countries like France and Germany. Or it must be the sheep and the donkeys. By the way, in France, Germany and Britain there are really beautiful landscapes, although I would not recommend Britain for cycling. (walking is ok)

Hello Audrey, thank you so much for the relaxing video. Amazing, I was at the same blooming spring time cycling in Albania and also overwhelmed by the beautifulness of that country and the hospitelity. It looks like we have the same style of travelling. Very appreciated how you also have spots of the small interesting things along the way. This region enchanted me so much that I decided to make a similar ride this year, but this time more the eastern part of balkans like Serbia, Kosovo, North-Macedonia heading for Istanbul. Perhaps we will meet us somewhere in that region .-)

Hello Audrey, very nice bike you built. I see you chose size XL. May I ask how tall you are? I am 1.91m and think that the bike will be too small for me or that I will have to mount the handlebars much higher.

I'm 1,85 m and my inside leg length is 91cm. I put a short stem on the bike because the top tube is quite long. I think you can check the sizing charge at the Surly website.

Are you using the suggested parts from the surly ogre page? When you add up the cost of the build was it more then the cost of the factory made bike?
@audreytracks Жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, the parts i choose for my bike-setup is not the suggested parts from Surly. I have selected the parts for simplicity, durabiliy and price/quality ratio. The total cost of my bike is a bit more then the factory made bike. The handmade wheel where expensive.
@stevemullin1195 Жыл бұрын
@audreytracks I'd like to see a list of the components you used for the build. Going to buy my XL Frame this fall then start hunting for deals of the parts. Taking a bike maintenance course this fall so hope to use my bike build to test my bike knowledge.

Hi Audrey. Thanks for sharing. What a great adventure. I am planning to do the ring road solo in July 2024. I'm looking at campsites and in some cases the distance between them can be quite high. I only plan to cycle about 60km to 70km a day. How did you get on with wild camping? I've researched it a little bit and I've got a bit confused as to what the rules actually are. Many thanks Ian.
@audreytracks Жыл бұрын
Great that you are going to iceland. It is a beautiful and special country. Wild camping is legal and no problem. the only condition is that you don't stand too close to a house. personally I think it's safer not to be visible from the road. You can pitch your tent behind a rock, hill or bush, 50 m from the road, is fine. I hope for you that it's not too busy with campers on the ring road. I was there when that covid situation started and therefore one of the few tourists. Have a nice tour

Great to see another video. Two weeks to go before I head over to The Netherlands (from Australia) with my Surly Ogre. I plan to ride the Ronde van Nederland camping all the way. I will also include Maastrict. Any tips?
@audreytracks Жыл бұрын
It's easy to find a camping in the Netherlands. They are all over. Tip! Farmcampings are nice and quiet. You van also be a member of natuurkampeerterreinen. Maastricht is worth a visit. The center is cozy with terraces and there are a number of beautiful churches to visit ... if you like that. The area to the east and south is also very beautiful and hilly.

Is the NTKC the same as natuurkampeerteereinen?
@audreytracks Жыл бұрын
@@simplydebes the NTKC campsites are simple camping areas where you can camp with a tent or small caravan. You have to be a member and the members maintain the places themselves. So there is no administrator. There is no electricity at the pitches and you are often in the middle of nature. The campgrounds are accessible all year round.
