I got your video on my feed providentially while struggling across the WTFDIGI phase. I very much appreciate to see the messy, frustrating, extenuating side of raising a puppy because it places everything into a new perspective and helps embrace the chaos and enjoy both the process and the canine partner you’ve just got.

I adopted a 6 year old Weimaraner as my second dog. It's overwhelming. He's never been trained so he is completely reactive running at every single thing that catches his attention. Zero impulse control. A wild animal more than a dog. I have wept every day. I'm lonely. I can't even buy groceries because he freaks out. I can't have a coffee at a cafe because he jumps on the table. I'm so angry with the last owners for making him like this and myself for deciding to clean up someone else's mess.

I had to euthanize my dog Jester after 10 wonderful years because he unfortunately developed cancer and I couldn’t bare to see him suffer. On a walk a couple years prior we found a stray kitten that grew up with Jester. Now I’d like to adopt a dog from a shelter but am unsure of how to determine if a dog is cat friendly? Anyone have any tips on how I could determine if a dog would be safe around cats?

I have been a dog groomer for 12 years and had 3 dogs as an adult. I felt like I failed all of them, especially the two I got as puppies. They were very difficult dogs their entire life. Reactive. Biting. One was aggressive. I made mistakes in their puppyhood before I became a groomer. After they passed from old age, it took me a year to get the courage to get another puppy. I had 12 years of knowledge now, but still that puppy phase is so important for the rest of their life I didn’t want to screw it up again. I finally got another puppy because the puppy fever was killing me. I named her Hope, because I had hope that I could try again and get the dog of my dreams. The first 3 days were awful. I definitely had the wtf did u do phase. I stayed consistent and now 8 days later she has learned SO FAST and has cut out many of the bad behaviors she was doing. She may develop new behaviors as she gets older but what you’re talking about needs to be talked about more!!!

The crazy part is she's not even that bad... I'm just stressed about not getting enough sleep because when she wants attention she wants if NOW and I've only had her for two days and I already want to give up... It's not what I thought it would be so thanks for this video.

I really wish I had found you before I returned my golden. I looked everywhere for help with all these things you just addressed and nothing helped us. I spent so much money and wound up frustrated and with a broken heart. I still miss here a year later and hope she found a good home that could afford the training.

I wish I had found you last year. We adopted a Golden Cream Retriever at 8 weeks old. We were not prepared for any of it even though I’ve raised lots of dogs (Labs). This one ruined me for the hope of ever owning a dog again. I almost pulled the trigger tonight and put a down on another puppy, but pulled back at the last remembering all the horrible things I went through with Juniper, and the pain of feeling I let her down when we returned her. We had her for 4 weeks before we took her back to the breeder. Her biting was the worst thing I’d ever encountered with a puppy before. I tried every trick I could get my hands on, and it would work the first time and then never again. She slept through the night for me after the first couple of nights, and was easily potty trained. She loved to play and learn, but her energy in the morning was beyond anything I’d ever seen. She would run at me and tear at my legs aggressively or jump and grab my hands and arms, growling, and ripping my clothes to shreds. I was a bleeding, crying, unhinged mess. She was a doll when she was sleeping, and that’s the only time I liked her. I have never owned a dog like her before. And I feel ruined. I want another dog because I love them, but I’m terrified of adopting another one. I can’t believe I couldn’t go through with a puppy for Christmas. How do I fix this? 😢

This doesn't happen with any other animal. Just dogs. It's almost like our instincts are telling us what a mistake this is and we just keep gaslighting ourselves into keeping these creatures for..... reasons. Dogs are the most returned and abandoned pet. There isn't kitten blues. There isn't bunny blues. Nor hamster, lizard ot bird blues. Man's best friend? Nah. They are the least compatible pet animal period. #DitchDogs

I NEED HELP !! My 4 month old female Boston Terrier has terrible Witching hour behavior almost every night. I have tried walking her 2 times a day once in the morning and once in the evening . I try to get her to nap in her crate during the day and once after dinner but nothing seems to help. She gets so wild , zoomies ( that doesn't bother me too much ) and biting and nipping ( that really bothers me) . She doesn't love going on neighborhood walks just yet and she can get VERY over excited by being in a setting with lots of stimulation...other dogs and unfamiliar surroundings. She loves people and during the day she is pretty much a good pup. Any suggestions would be appreciated. ! I give her chew toys, lick mat and sometimes that works but sometimes she's just unhinged. HELP !!! Should I try to play with her during that time , tug of war, chasing the flirt pole? I worry that doing those things will make her over stimulated and then she'll never calm down during the rest of the night.

Great tips. Here are some that worked for our toy breed companion purpose dog (not a working dog like a herding or guarding dog). After a month, we turned the corner on our four month old puppy. At first I was dismayed, thinking the pup just couldn't learn but then persistence with three minute training sessions every hour he was awake with lots of food rewards for every positive behavior we wanted, whether laying down ("good down" and treat) or doing command training, and tons of verbal praise and petting of his hind flanks and it eventually started coming together for him. Crate training made the biggest difference for our sanity and is so worth doing. You will hear protests but you can get through those with patience if you are able to let your pup know you are still around at first. I would just walk by without looking. Also tons of rewards for going outside worked great. Using the command "Potty" worked- there are a ton of videos about all this online- just do those and also learn dog body language so you can see signs of stress, etc. We also had zero tolerance of any biting. Would immediately say Ouch in a hurtful way and stop all play for around two minutes, repeat as needed and make a fist when playing with a pup- protects your fingers and they don't like it. He learned fast that any biting meany no play, no treats. Capturing is excellent for behavior training. You live with a treat bags around your waste for a couple of months and reward, reward, reward. Soon it is imprinted on their brain. I ignored negative behavior. Fed on a loose schedule with no food after 5 pm and bedtime at 9 pm. Always had water available and also set timers for pee and poop- AND always used the word Potty when going to and through the door we used to go do his business. Socialization- we also had the challenge of late arrival for socialization. We took it slow- no flooding through forcing interactions with anything or any other dogs. Drove to parks and just sat in the car watching people and other dogs come and go while feeding treats. I reserved half his daily food for high nutrition treats. Sometimes we did five minute sniffy walks. No leash training- just sniffy walks. After a couple weeks of listening to urban noises, seeing other people at closer and closer range, he became comfortable with sudden loud noises and a variety of people. Dogs when we were on a walk where a different matter- he was reactive, defense, growl and bark, not play bark even though he had a play buddy (relatives new puppy). I tackled that by feeding him treats as soon as I saw he saw another dog. After a solid two weeks of that several times a day, he now thinks seeing a dog is a happy thing and wants to meet or follow. I just repeat, repeat, repeat every training multiple times a day. Training is brain work and that is good for any dog.

you sir are a saint. hes such a good, and calm little puppy, hes sleeping in his crate all night after 3 days (wakes up 3-4 times throughout the night to go outside and do his thing) but hes still only 8 weeks old so his bladder is small. BUT for some reason i have this undying feeling that im nuts and wtfwit. whenever he has his hour long burst of energy which seems to only happen when im about to eat or take a nap. i keep telling myself ill give it a week and if its not a good fit ill give him up, but you made me rethink that. just gonna push through and come out the other end with my dream dog/bestfriend

I have a 6 month old female Presa and she definitely goes into manic/dominant mode when overtired. The first time it happened I thought she was showing signs of being aggressive but this was absolutely untrue. She was just tired and cranky and letting everyone know it! I learned to recognize the signs well before she gets out of control and either remove her from play if we are playing with other dogs, put her into her kennel for a nap if at home, or give her a Kong with a frozen treat to redirect and calm her.

People with kittens, you are allowed to feel this way too, I’m currently going through the horrible (in my opinion) phase of introduction of older cat to brand new baby, it’s hard, god it’s hard, and it sucks and I know you just can’t deal with the screaming anymore. Just remember something I was always taught when bringing a new animal home. Yes YOU are emotionally invested in this cat/kitten, but they are only living off of their instincts right now and ya they might act like they wanna bond and maybe they are in a way, but they really (especially in cases with babies) are just craving attention and don’t know how to get it without screaming or making a mess or whatever they’re doing that’s just pissing you off to no end. My Bee won’t let the new kitten out of her sights, door or no door, she’s almost always hissing. I felt like a horrible momma to my baby Bee yesterday and today, but wanna know what’s she’s doing right now, now that’s she’s calmed down a bit? Laying in her bed next to mine purring that she has mommas attention and presence. Cats, just like dogs, CRAVE attention, and no matter how you’re doing it, new first baby or introducing baby to other cats. All the cats what is attention, and it’s okay to give them all you got, you need that break, take it, let the cat stay in their room, shut that door, and take a break, go eat something, watch a (loud) movie or show. You got this! This cat momma with kitten blues has faith in you and herself to get though this god forsaken time!

My pup was a NIGHTMARE on Wheels! Much like many other pups I imagine. At 6 months I heavily considered giving her up, so much so that I listed her online for free (no rehoming fee, just actually free) and signed her up for the next available no-kill shelter slot that was available. Well...I swear it was like she knew that this was it. She began to calm down! I received immediate interest for her within a day of listing her, but I held off. Then about a month later the shelter called and said they had a spot. 2 years later she is still with me. She's not easy, but nothing like she was, and I love her. I will never give her up!

@@DashandDougtheGoldens It was hard, I remember crying and feeling so bad about making the listing to rehome her. But it did get easier, and easier. She's still a ball of energy, but she's learned how to live in our home, and we've learned that long walks and running time at the park will save our sanity! She's just an absolute sweetheart and so funny too. I never believed when people would say "It gets easier", I used to think...."You don't know my dog, she's not like yours!" But it does get easier, especially if you take the time to teach them your home rules and boundaries. Good luck to you! I know exactly where you are coming from. 💛

You are so correct and so many trainers use dogs that are highly food motivated and known to be exceptionally intelligent. There is little on the internet about dogs who come late to socialization or are older and were not properly socialized and that is because it is challenging and would make trainers who are selling their programs look bad.
