Thanks for your video! I have a 1967 brick home built on a slab. Lots of cracks in the bricks on one wall due to an overdue plumbing issue which has been fixed. The water was saturating the soil weakening it next to the foundation. I dug out a small area underneath the slab just to see what it looks like. It appears to not have the modern day "monolithic slab" where the footer is deeper than the rest of the slab. It appears to be approximately 8-9 inches thick everywhere. I was just curious as to why your engineer required the depth to be around 3 feet deep? That seems really deep compared to a traditional footer that may be 12 inches deep or so. What type of soil do you have? By the way, I completely understand why you did not jack up the house but only intended to stop or slow down further sinking. I plan to do the same and seems to be the most appropriate for my situation. This video is very helpful! Thanks!

Wait, sir, what happened under the tile? Did you smear mortar or grout, then seat the tile then grout in between the tiles after tiles set from ground mortaring?
@Chrdiy8 ай бұрын
After you clean the old water from under the tile, you reset the replacement tile, then regrout once dry
@StewartJones-v7h7 ай бұрын
@@Chrdiy So nothing of a cement nature gets newly smeared under replacement tile? Probably because pulling old “substrate “ (is that the term? )would ruin the water proofing, which is plastic? Then the in between grout holds the newly placed replacement tile in place? Or is new mortar smeared down? Sorry, I’m really using your video for a real project on a Roman bath tub and want to be clear. I’ve never done this and it just seems to me that you need new mortar under tile then grout the cracks/in between tiles. Reading your comment I think I understand it to mean you do indeed paste down new cement then new tile seated down then grout.

@@StewartJones-v7h no under the tile is a inch and a half concrete wet bed base under the wet bed base there's a wet bed liner, under that liner there's another inch and a half wet bed base. Or continuous monolith style pour with all mentioned condition being prepped and meet prior to pour, one piece concrete pour slab and footing at once. This was old school before regulations pre 1960
