I loved the red tailed black cockatoo, I often see them here in Perth.I didn't know they were that wide spread. We are blessed in Australia with so many beautiful & interesting birds. A very enjoyable video, thanks.

A lot of time goes into seeing these birds. In the videos it may look like they are everywhere but in reality there is a LOT of down between sightings usually. Make sure the area you go is know for lots of bird activity, ebird is a useful website to help you work out where they are

Abolutely great and very inspiring video! Will be to Costa Rica this year, too. Really much looking forward to it! May I ask you what focal lenght you mainly used for your (lovely) bird shots? Thanks a lot!
@RogerMacKertich3 күн бұрын
Thank you. Costa Rica was amazing, you will have a great time. I was using 500mm focal length. Sometimes it was a little too long when the larger birds were closer (toucan, curassow etc)

While Australian wildlife seems generally pretty crazy, over here it's the people. I wish you safe and pleasant travels. It'll be interesting to hear/see your take on our wildlife. You're seeing the better half of the US from that standpoint. I suspect we have pretty dull wildlife due to our, basically, bulldozing of the country throughout the past. We shall see, and get some good close-ups of it too. 🤞Best of luck!

I went through Pine Creek earlier this year, unfortunately didn't have time to stay there for a night, but we managed to pick up Hooded Parrot at Katherine. I must agree that they are a stunning bird. When we drove down to Alice Springs on the same trip we got shocked as a stretch of road had about 300+ Diamond Doves feeding along it.

My wife and I are flying into Sydney in a few days for our first trip to Australia! We have thoroughly enjoyed learning to identify Australia's birds from your videos. Most other KZbinrs put the name of the bird up immediately, but with your videos we can hit pause, figure out what the bird is, then hit play to see if we were right. It is way more fun and way more effective way to learn the birds than just studying the field guide. Your videography and photographs are always excellent. Thanks for posting these videos. We really appreciate it!!

@@RogerMacKertich We live in Sierra Vista, Arizona. It's a very popular birding destination because it has the most hummingbirds of any place in the US and we also have many other birds that you can't find anywhere else in the US.

Hello Joe from Sydney. My wife & I have visited the NT in 2022 & this year. Apart from sports & family, I am a keen wildlife photographer, particularly birds. Fogg Dam & Corroberee Billabong were my favourite places to shoot. Make sure you take the Waterlillies walk at Fogg Dam. In 2022, I was lucky to capture a Water Python devouring its prey on that walk. The snakes usually hunt nocturnally. I hope you enjoy your visit to Australia, as we have done visiting yours (6 times, 39/50 States). Cheers, John.

@@naturephotographychallenge most of the video was done from a boat too. So that was extra tricky. I do get a heap of unused footage that is out of focus/way too shaky to use. I only shoot handheld too (maybe 5% on tripod) as I like the freedom it gives me.

What is the behaviour of a Cuckoo-shrike ? Does it behave like a Cuckol, laying its egg in another bird’s nest 🪺? Or does it kill its prey by stabbing it on tree thorns and man-made spikes , like barbed wires ?
@RogerMacKertich21 күн бұрын
It all sounds so brutal. I am actually not sure if the cuckoo-shrikes behave the same as cuckoos. Must do some research on that.

The only predatory bird I have seen in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR is the Black Kite in the semi-rural areas of the coastlines along the waterfront promenade. I have also seen the Common Kingfisher, the Grey Wagtails and the White-wagtails. We also have lots of Chinese Egrets, Greater Egrets and Cattle Egrets, too.
