I've been there four times and enjoyed my visits, but climate change has had its effect. On the plus side, it rains a lot more. On the minus side, I rarely saw a blue sky and the humidity was often very high.

I drove from sosua on the north coast to punta cana in the south in a day in a rental car... Got lost in the mountains in another rental.... Owned a motorcycle for 3 weeks down there.. Driving was fun but stressful at times.. Beautiful country I go back to a new area, Santiago in 2 weeks.

I don’t agree that the country is extremely poor. There is poverty as much as there is in the US. The only thing is that in the DR doesn’t mascarade its poverty like the US and Canada where almost 99% of the population owes their life to debt.
