Its 2023... I live in East Texas. My mom and dad, granparents, extended family are all from East Texas. These folks remind me of so many people I grew up around. Their demeanor, speech, mannerisms, etc... are all similar to my grandparents, who were of the same generation. My grandfather ran his catfish farm until 2016, and he died in 2017 at 100 years old. He worked up until a couple months before he died. So few of these people are still left now. I miss being a kid and sitting around listening to my grandparents and their friends and neighbors....my aunts and uncles all sit around and talk. Some from the baby boomer era are like this, but not a whole lot. Im a Gen Xer, and even fewer are like these people. I still live way out in the country with my family. East Texas is stillnjust about one of the best places on earth. Even with all the changes in the world...east Texas still has the same feel it always did. Its not necessarily an easy place to live. Its not always a hospitable climate. The landscape can swallow you up if you dont keep it beat back. But its a beautiful place. I have travelled allnover the nation and the world with my work. But theres nowhere else like east Texas. Cant imagine wanting to be anywhere else.

Great story.......these real and wise older people are fading into the past. The last to know about true adversity. To come from doing what it took to keep themselves and their families from actually starving to making better lives for the said same today in most cases. We will miss them and the honest experiences that they share. Bless them all.

I chanced upon this interview this evening via youtube's 'suggested videos', despite living in London, UK. Still, I very much enjoyed the recollections of this charming, loving couple. It appears the film was made around 2006 and I subsequently discovered via google that LD passed on in 2011. Seems like Lucy is still going strong in her mid nineties now! The town they are talking about is Jasper in east Texas.
