Feb. 8, 2024...I was fortunate to catch Ada Lee's concert at Showplace Peterborough today..I have known Ada for fifty years..and even performed with her in a concert at the Red Oak Inn in Peterborough in the early eighties...She is still a consummate performer at age 96.. Magnificent!

Heard this duo for first time this afternoon on BC, Canada's Carolyn Mark Pandemic Virt Hoot #54. Mayhemingways were not originally scheduled but did a live streaming black & white set from their romper room shack somewhere in Central Ontario named Peterborough. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYHXf6yrhdyCgtE They did not do in their too short set this ol' Springsteen bedroom taped song of the kinda dead-end choices left to the young and old in corruption-soaked once legendary and now being surpassed in cities all around the Neo-Liberal E-CON'd and Neo-Con'd world. I normally hate accordion except when worked into a groove like Zydeco or Swamp Blues. Hearing Benj here wheeze away on organ, lose himself inside the vocal narrative and work those bass pedals like I used to love watching and listening to J.J. Cale do on small No. Cal bar gigs when he'd drive up the coast to test out the early Roger Lin drum machine micro-chips slunk down in a chair picking some aero-dynamic micro-fiber Ovation with his wife Christine Lakeland on grooving Korg and wispy vocal harmonies. Too bad Cale never covered this fed up with the whole corrupt world Springsteen tune (probably inspired by the great Susan Sarandon\Burt Lancaster movie "ATLANTIC CITY") cuz Cale tended to give off the aura of one who'd aged well beyond the nearly optimistic narrative slant the same song takes on when done by a young Benj Rowland in tandem with Josh Fewings spritely drumming and tender traps cymbals. Looking forward to getting to hear some of this duo's recordings. Post pandemic love to have em cross the border down here to PoTown, Ore and our lovely city of newly built luxury condo towers that are vacant while all around them are the Homeless Tent Encampments and anxious in the few 50-year Wage Stag-Nation priced and infrastructure decrepit rooming houses, still around since the ongoing GREATER DEPRESSION.
