This almost happened to me and my son on Erie. My auto bilge pump stopped working and i noticed water in the back. I ended up starting the outboard, pulling the plug and heading for shore. It eventually sucked all the water out, but it took a while for the boat to level out. Now I have two electric pumps and a manual pump. Never again! Scary stuff.

For future boaters, if there is another running boat nearby, tie the bow of the sinking boat to the running boat and have him tow you at slow speed, reach down and pull the drain plug from the bottom of the sinking boat. You will save the boat from sinking and everyone will be happy. If your boat can run Under its own power then do the same thing.
