Too bad, I saw this video after applying SLC on top of liquid DPM and they both reacted and the DPM burst at a few places and came out of SLC layer. The SLC should be dry overnight, but it has been 4 days and the rest of the floor is still little damp at some spots. Any advice, please?

How do you know what size wood to use as a former for the drain base? Do you go a bit bigger than the drains' actual size to allow for shrinkage of the screed, or is it exactly the same size?

I have a similar bathroom to do. My longest fall from wall to strip drain is 1200mm. My fall should be 10mm of fall. This means there will be 10mm of your stop angle exposed inside the shower at the top of the strip drain , how do you finish the edge between tile and stop angle ? Silicon or grout? In your case it should be about 6mm fall.
@ardexaustralia
@ardexaustralia 2 ай бұрын
Good question @podden3863 - The minimum thickness of a bonded screed is 15mm. This means the height of the screed at 1.2m will be 30mm to achieve the 1/80 falls for shower areas. ARDEX do not sell the stop angles.

What's the small plinth around the edges - I'm doing a fixed panel screen, do I need that?
@ardexaustralia
@ardexaustralia 2 ай бұрын
Good question @digita1hero - We believe you are referencing the waterstop angle that is protruding up around the sides of the demonstration unit being waterproofed. This is intended to prevent passage of water from within the shower enclosure to the surrounding areas (including potential water travelling through the tile adhesive /screed). We have a number of visual resources that may assist in understanding the waterproofing detailing processes, including the link below showing how to incorporate a shower screen installation: www.ardexaustralia.com/pdf/cad/D23%20-%20SHOWER%20WATER%20STOP%20AND%20COVER%20ANGLE.pdf?_gl=1*bsh86z*_ga*MjAwMjc3MDM0NS4xNTkyMzQ4NDQ4*_ga_5BRGGQSHFH*MTcxNTIyNjQwMC4xMjgxLjEuMTcxNTIyNjQwMC42MC4wLjA.

Hi Ardex, will the STB tape adhere to polyurethane already applied? We have used a universal tile-over shower tray and have poly where the villa board meets the tray as per the installation guidelines. By the way thanks for the great technical sheet on the Universal Shower Trays!
@ardexaustralia
@ardexaustralia 2 ай бұрын
If the polyurethane is a paintable one then the STB would stick to it. The concern here is whether or not the polyurethane exhibits plasticiser migration. This is the act of plasticisers within the polyurethane slowly drifting out of the polyurethane throughout the life of the sealant. This can lead to softening of membrane coatings applied on top of the sealant. STB tape will help protect the membrane from directly touching the polyurethane. You're welcome re: the technical datasheets!!

Does the direction of the glue for the wall tiles need to be running vertically so that the water will run between the channels? Thanks
@ardexaustralia
@ardexaustralia 2 ай бұрын
Good question @geoffstein3896 - The main thing here is ensuring you are keeping the notches unidirectional. If you fan the adhesive or alter directions there is a greater chance you cannot collapse the notch voids properly and end up with voids. No specific requirement for this one but it is preferable to choose the best direction which will allow proper Tarver method notch collapsing.

How do yo mix the slurry?
@ardexaustralia
@ardexaustralia 2 ай бұрын
Good question @ravinvijayakumare - Bonded screeds are generally applied with a bonding slurry coat consisting of a liquid polymer additive (e.g. acrylic or SBR - rubber latex such as ARDEX Abalastic or WPM405) mixed with cement. The bonding slurry is broomed thoroughly over the dry membrane and the mixed wet screed mortar applied over the still wet bonding slurry. The liquid polymer additive is also diluted with water and mixed into the screed mortar.

Your guy did a great job, but how do you explain to the client that the water-stop will be visible and covered with wp membrane? In addition, wouldn’t be better to fill the gap between the shower base tiles and the wall with silicone or polyurethane instead of cementitious grout? Thanks for these videos
@ardexaustralia
@ardexaustralia 8 ай бұрын
Glad you like them! The waterstop will generally be covered with the installation of the shower screen or an alternate material. The video does not reach this step of the installation. As for the junction, the use of silicone will allow for a greater mount of movement but this is not necessary. Application of grout in this area is suitable, albeit, if the installation encounters high movement cracks could develop in the more rigid cementitious grout.

Can the bond breaker tape go onto self levelling concrete substrate? great video.
@ardexaustralia
@ardexaustralia 8 ай бұрын
Yes the ARDEX STB and STA tape can be used onto a self levelling substrate as long as this is primed first using the ARDEX Multiprime. Like all recommendations before priming you must ensure the substate is clean of all contaminations, including dirts, dust, paint etc. Once cleaned, the ARDEX Multiprime is applied. This is allowed to cure for 30 mins to 1 hour then the ARDEX STB and STA tape can be installed.

@ardexaustralia
@ardexaustralia 9 ай бұрын
There are many possible reasons, and all are related to the drying of the grout and the underlying tile adhesive. This can be affected by the porosity of the tiles, the temperature on the day and air flow. Can I use sand/cement screed above waterproofing to create falls? If not, How would screed bond to paddle flange?
@ardexaustralia
@ardexaustralia Жыл бұрын
Hi Stanislau, At ARDEX, we say the fall needs to be where the membrane is, so you can put the membrane on the screed but not underneath unless the falls are already in place. The best thing to do for the puddle flange is to extend it so that the waterproofing membrane, when placed on the screed, can be run into it neatly. If you can't do this, and you HAVE to bond the screed to the flange, give it a sand, then prime with ARDEX P 9, and then apply the screed with a slurry coat as per normal. Should you wish to discuss this in more detail, feel free to call us on 1300 788 780.

Is it advisable to tile over a lime render after remove the old tiles
@ardexaustralia
@ardexaustralia Жыл бұрын
The brickwork should be rendered prior to tiling as variations in the mortar line depths could translate to high variances in the tile adhesive thickness (to the point where shrinkage in built-out areas may become a concern). If the old tiles are removed and the adhesive is brought back to the original lime render then there shouldn’t be an issue with going over the render base. Just check that the render is in a decent condition (not drummy or falling apart). If compromised then the render damaged render should be removed and re-rendered before tiling.
