Thanks! I don't have any tutorials myself, but I'd recommend searching for "p5js tutorial" to get started with the techniques used in this video. From there it's not too hard to port it to Arduino

Great stuff! That releas button should be changed to be a trigger, instead of being a release. For better usability.

Have you used the mozzi library? I've been thinking about building a hybrid synth with digital oscillators. What would be the best option in your opinion? Synthio or mozzi? Thanks in advance.
@todbot20 күн бұрын
Oh yes I do Mozzi a lot! (github.com/todbot/mozzi_experiments) Hard to compare Mozzi & synthio. Mozzi is more configurable; more like a virtual modular. Synthio has a set signal flow for much of its. It's easier to get going with synthio but I think you can go further with Mozzi (or any of the other Arduino-based synth libraries)

I just got one and the firmware does NOT fix the glitchy and pops- Also some presets from the factory that use the grain engine are CPU high all the time and are always messed up...

Pretty lame that Polyend released it with those issues. I have faith some future updates will sort it soon enough.

Nice video. I have an issue connecting my Keystep where on some sounds, for instance sound 502, the note cuts off after a few seconds. I tried tweaking the release of the sample in the envelope setting, it makes no difference (with the release at maximum the sound still cuts off abruptly). I wonder if this is down to a setting, it makes any playing of these sounds impossible. Could it also be a cable issue? I had the wrong type of adapter, which didn't work at all, then got the other kind of adapter and this happens. I haven't tried a dedicated MIDI cable with DIN on one side and TRS on the other.

Very cool! I just discovered your projects a few days ago - really great stuff. This one looks like it would make a nice little step sequencer. I've developed a sample player/groovebox for the Pico and I hope be able to port a version of it to the PicoTouch_Synth.
@maksmakes2 ай бұрын
@todbot Any plans to add a TRS midi out as well? ;-) Either way I'd be keen to buy one! And agree with other comment, this is just some firmware changes away from being a cool little midi sequencer which I think you've demoed before too?
@todbot2 ай бұрын
Yep, I just finished up an iteration of this idea that can be battery powered and has TRS MIDI out

Is it hart do change/adopt the code for using RP2040 Zero?
@todbot3 ай бұрын
It would be pretty easy to adapt this to RP2040 Zero. You can use any pins for the audio out and touch pads and butotn. The potentiometers still go to two analog inputs. The MIDI input must go to a serial RX pin, so that's the only "tricky" one.
@Electronic_hobby3 ай бұрын
@@todbot And what about SAMD21? A better board? Easier to adopt?
@Electronic_hobby3 ай бұрын
@@todbot Unfortunately I've spent a few days trying to change the code so it would run on SAMD21 or 2040-Zero. No luck. I'm no programmer, so no wonder ;)
@todbot3 ай бұрын
@@Electronic_hobby This is a CircuitPython project and the SAMD21 version of CircuitPython is very limited and cannot have the synthio library

@todbot while I'm here... lots of folk are getting excited about the Risc-V architecture being included as well as the Arm cores... Why is this a big deal? What can the Risc-V cores do that the Arm cores can't, and if you're only ever coding in Python or Arduino does it make any difference? Thanks!
@todbot3 ай бұрын
In the RP2350, the RISC-V cores are less powerful than the Arm cores. But RISC-V is an open source design spec and the Hazard3 cores in the RP2350 are on github if you want to use them for your own chips. And "open" here also means not having to pay Arm Corp for a license on each chip. Raspberry Pi I'm sure is very interested in that. And while the RISC-V cores aren't as fast, they're not too far off I hear (and faster than the RP2040). So a future "Pico" may be entirely RISC-V based and still be very fast. Which means cheaper for us, since no license fee

I love rotary encoders, but can't someone design a version that's not so loud when you push the button? 😜
@todbot3 ай бұрын
Ahah totally! Normal switches have "actuating force" as a product variation, and you can pick low actuation force to get more silent switches. But all rotary encoders I've seen with push switches just say "5-9 N force" CLICK CLICK

@@todbot My mac sees that a midi controller is connected, but won't show it listed in garage band as an input source. Any ideas?
@todbot3 ай бұрын
@@irish_bug Sorry, no clue about that. I just opened up a new MIDI track and started playing. Where is this "input source"? Oh that's in Settings -> Audio/MIDI? I also see "None", but yet it still works. I see picotouch show up fine in Ableton, VCV Rack, & MIDI Monitor, so I'm thinking this is a Garage Band weirdness. Have you tried playing on the picotouch on a MIDI track?
