$70K to $80K per year for Princeton is for those who's family income qualify for financial aid. But for many middle class families - who's parents are professionals - do not qualify for this financial aid and so have to pay full fare is $87K per year for (2024-25) - with a 4% annual increase in this cost built in. The total cost of attendence for 4 years will therefore be upward of $370K. So totally not worth it, imho..... as a middle class person. But totally worth it - for the bragging rights - and if I wanted to impress others - especially if I were rich and/or well to do "prestige monger".

Meanwhile Columbia is now 3.8%, making it the second most difficult Ivy to gain admission to. The admission rate at Columbia will be even lower in 2025 and at this rate will overtake Harvard.

Do you have any advice for me? I'm in the class of 2028, and I signed up for an early graduation program. I plan to graduate in 11th grade. Do you think graduating a year early will affect my chances of being accepted into Harvard or any other Ivy League school?

It really depends on your situation - do you think you can accomplish more with that extra year? Most big name academic competitions and national and regional awards are garnered in the junior year. But if you apply in your junior year, you might miss out on reporting some potentially important awards (Intel ISEF, for example) in your application.

Individual effort and field of study may have a bigger influence over the quality of institution. I think you're right that the Ivy education can open doors in certain companies or organizations, but they may also backfire. I've met about a dozen Ivy League graduates who either had a "chip on their shoulder" and couldn't advance very far in their career either because of managers who were jealous or their attitudes/work product at work. Likewise, after working at several Fortune 100 companies, I have not met any in my corporate circles. (Mind you, I don't work in Big Tech or Wall Street). So, your mileage may vary.

I think there's some merit to this too. In certain cities, for example, Los Angeles, the USC alumni network is very strong. In fact, many of them tend to hire other USC grads. So I do agree that the Ivy League brand may not be strong when it comes to getting jobs compared to USC grads in LA. But at the same time, if we're talking about venture capital funding and starting your own business, then that Ivy League degree carries significantly more weight.

It would be interesting to compare an Ivy League vs Private vs Public university degrees. College educated students already out-earn high-school only graduates by $1,000,000 over the lifetime.

how much did you pay after college?
@admissionsight
@admissionsight 12 күн бұрын
Not much actually - about $50K all-in for the four years! So roughly $12,500 per year. Princeton gives a lot of grants and financial assistance.

College admissions is a holistic process. A lower GPA might mean lower odds of acceptance, but you can overcome that by strengthening your extracurricular activities. Strong and unique extracurriculars is still a must.

I heard that low gpa students directly rejected without even looking other areas because they have so many applications and they should somehow eliminate them. I am an international student and our school system is harder than other countries' system. My school doesn't use class rank but i know i am above average in a really competitive school (i have 91/100 gpa). My other areas are really strong, and i think if i'I am not eliminated when they see my gpa, i can get into a t20 college. I am really really afraid of direct rejection, do you think i will reject without even looking my other areas. Please be realistic and remember i am an international student.

Do you think I would be able to get in with a 3.0 GPA? I got interest from them for men's volleyball but the assistant coach said unfortunately my GPA is too low for their school......what do you think, should I give it a go? My gpa is that low cause I f'd around 9/10 grade with horrendously low gpa's and then started IB in 11th grade which I finished with a 3.8 cumulative. Now I am a senior. I'm Polish living in Tokyo. I've also done 5 internships, starting at the age of 15. 2 law firms (one of which is DLA Piper ranked 3rd in the world), health IT company, human resource company and Mercedes.

This kind of comparison started about twenty years ago, yet Harvard is still Harvard. For foreseeable future, the situation will remain the same because Stanford, in terms of its student body, is still pretty much an engineering school-and most of the best STEM kids in the Bay Area however choose Harvard/MIT over Stanford nowadays.
