I don't play guitar but I'm wondering what makes the verse so hard?
@FitzgerdКүн бұрын
@@chrisflores2002 the stretch for the first part of the verse coupled with the picking pattern is probably the hardest part of the verse. Especially where you go from lower down the guitar neck to having to jump up into that big stretch for the verse

I had thought Mike was using some other phase shifter. To my surprise the simple old standard MXR Phase 90 seems to be spot on. I had one for years. They sound different depending on the amp. I detest how it sounds when Eddie Van Halen and Lynyrd Skynyrd used it on their first albums. Ha! I am drawing a blank coming up with any among countless examples of when it sounds good. Apparently one example is the way Mike uses it. I like the punchy guitar on this song and this performance boosts that so well I am going to be listening to thins video when I crave hearing the song.

@@SM-bm6jo thank you! In terms of incubus song Warning is a great example with the phase 90 and delay to get those swirling repeats and the song nowhere fast. The intro has the phase 90 on as well 👍🏻

I am going to watch all of your videos now that I discovered this one. You definitely nailed the tone. Hybrid picking sounds much better than using a guitar pick 100% of the time. All the subtle variations are more interesting than the relatively sterile clicking of straight guitar pick. At least on this song. That arpeggio is an integral aspect of this song. I love how Incubus is truly a band. They are all doing something vital to each song.

You mentioned in your video that to get an out of phase effect the switch would have to be in the middle position. That's true if the humbuckers are 'two wire type'. If the pickups have four wires, each one can be played as split coil so using either the north or south windings of the humbucker, also in or out of phase, or either in parrallel or series. Obviously significant wiring mods are needed to achieve these effects. I have three Les Pauls I've modified to have 22 different sound effects and a Super Strat that gives me 15 different sound effects.

@@Extremesports49 you’ll get there! The verse has some tricky parts with big stretches. Take your time and break it down into chunks. Work on the first stretch and then move on to the next part once you have that down move onto the next chunk and so on. Then when each chunk is in your muscle memory, that is the time to start putting them together. I have lost count the amount of times I have played this now - took me a decent amount of time to get it feeling comfortable!
