I believe it was 180° headers. Junior Johnson ran them, on and off, until the early 90s

@@Nasty-Canasta That's what I've concluded. Smokey Yunick said they never offered much of a performance advantage, but they sounded cool. The Ford GT had the same.

@@SwineBrothers That's what happened with the 4 car in the 90s. There was so much more going on with the Kodak car, but everyone was so focused on how the car sounded, no one thought it was anything else

@@Nasty-Canasta I do miss when NASCAR machines sounded different. Like the 4 car you mentioned. That's a quite interesting story too.

The legend Frank Kimmel's first ARCA start. He's driving the #02 Pontiac for Wallace Racing. Originally Jack Wallace was scheduled to drive the car but gave the ride to Kimmel before the race. And thus a legend was born.

People just don’t realize how good racing was good back then. Stars and bars didn’t mean what the nation is trying to make it out to be, and technology was low so everyone could bend the rules and get the most out of their car. Good thing we have the old recordings.

I've seen far more violent Sprint Car crashes than this, some involving fire. But, yes, even the simplest can be fatal. I've seen every kind of racing that's ever been invented and Sprint Cars are still the standard. Same in the other countries where I've seen them raced. Rallye Cars are the next closest but there's still nothing like Sprinters

Tracie Leslie was my hero growing up. Toledo was the best show. Butch Miller, Bruce Vanderlaan, Jay and Artie Sommers Terry and Jerry, Cook, Ron Miller, "The Magic Man" Dick Barker., Tim Ice. Sonny really put on a show. My dad told me once that Sonny Adams called him after a bad wreck and asked if he needed any help to get his car back together by Sunday. Promoters don't do that anymore. It's a shame.

Waltrip was never and has never been a team player. Saying slanderous stuff and promoting "cheats" to win, lies etc. The Gardiner brothers were less than credible too. Honesty is foreign to Waltrip. Back then, it was considered "truth" that Waltrip had "sugared" Allison's fuel tank to facilitate the championship.
