Hi Betty! Nice to catch up with your latest episode 👍 That vintage knitting machine you scored sounds rather speccy for the price. What a great deal! And lucky you for finding that yarn!! I really love your skeletons jumper and will need to consider making one for myself. I'm quite tall so hopefully wouldn't run into the same issue with the yoke depth. Circular yokes seem really fiddly.

@knittingwithbetty Күн бұрын
I think I only got the weird yoke depth because I didn't get gauge and was too lazy to keep swatching lol. Lesson learned! But also I think I am 'petite' in stature so perhaps the pattern writer writes for normal sized people? I don't know lol, but highlights the importance of gauge swatches!

@@knittingwithbetty I am thinking with yoke, maybe there is a way to look at the pattern and figure out how many rows the motif will be as well? Bit of extra work though.

Gosh as you were talking about what you eat for breakfast, I was horrified !! I'm not kidding!! You are eating a horrifying amount of neurotoxin like almonds, green or black tea, chia seeds, raspberries, potatoes, lemon peel and any excess vitamin C the liver will convert to neurotoxin. This is what kidney stone are made of and can cause all sorts of health issues. They build up over time and the kidneys are only capable of getting rid of or processing a certain amount of these neurotoxins without damaging themselves, hence the build up. These neurotoxins also like to link up with calcium which can cause osteopenia and osteoporosis. The neurotoxin is called Oxalate. You need to be aware of what foods contain high levels of Oxalate and keep the level down. Rhubarb is also high in these neurotoxins. I would love to shop your Etsy shop but don't have a link or follow you on Instagram. Please leave links in your KZbin description. 😊

Do you have a recipe for the rosehip syrup? I tried making rosehip tea once (it tasted okay) but removing the sharp hairs from each 'hip was laborious

Just happened across your channel this evening and knitted along to your podcast - I love it! Your dogs are so cute, as is the beautiful sweater. I've been tempted by the Bird and Blend Cosy Collection of teas. It contains the apple bobbing tea as well as other autumnal flavours; good to hear a good review of the tea!

Welcome!! Hope you liked the video and it's great to have you here :). I used the River Cottage recipe for rosehip syrup www.rivercottage.net/recipes/rosehip-syrup buuuuuut I rarely follow recipes to the letter lol. I didn't strain over a muslin as I found that stripped out all the good stuff and made it thin and watery. So I used a sieve to pass the hips through and get the hairs/pips out. Takes a bit of effort but worth it! I also didn't bother chopping them up as the recipe says, I just boiled em up and mashed them with a potato masher to get them to break up (once boiled they become softer). Finally my last rule break was to simmer them for more like an hour, the recipe says 15 mins which didn't really soften the hips up as I'd like so I kept simmering until they were nice and mushy. Good luck! It's worth the effort as it's a lovely treat on a grey winters morning!

Hello Betty, happy sweater season!! 🧶❤Sounds like someone has been a busy bee. Hope your mum is doing better. Your doggies are so adorable and I'm sure they enjoyed their birthday cake.🎂 I have the Tyrolean book but haven't knitted anything yet. I was a little disappointed that 3 of the patterns were also in other vintage knitting books. However, I love the history bit, all the pics, how-to embroidery and how to design one with a peplum. Looking forward to seeing how your Tyrolean jacket turns out. I think Linda Ivell is working on another book. I know you are super busy but you should really try Ravelry again. I don't mean to be a broken record but I looked up your skeleton sweater. There are almost 100 knitters working on it. I'm sure you could ask about your sweater problems there and find lots of good advice. Good luck with machine knitting. Of course, there are groups for that on Ravelry too. LOL Take care❤

But I will go into the pattern on Ravelry and see if anyone else had my problem and how they fixed it, thanks for the tip! That's what's so great about the vintage community - they share all their hints and tips <3

Hello Betty, new subscriber here 😄. I have been to the car boot sale this morning and bought a joblot of vintage knitting patterns for £2. What a bargain! I have decided to attempt to knit one. The first one I have chosen is mariners silver dew 843. Pattern is dated 1962 on the back. I am starting a tension square in king cole merino blend 4 ply in clerical grey. Fingers crossed I can manage it. Lovely podcast.

Betty, your strawberry Fields top is gorgeous. I’m really tempted to knit it. 30 degrees in Australia sounds like the perfect weather. It’s not unusual in summer here to hit 45 degrees. I hope your weather has cooled. ❤️❤️🌺

Haha yes I know I’m a total wimp with heat compared to my Antipodean and American friends! I think Paris has been particularly hot this past week with the Olympics going on there at the mo, poor athletes! It used to be a once in a decade event with heat like that but is now every summer 😩. I did consider buying a mini AC unit in the Amazon Prime deals lol but alas it was still expensive. I can’t recommend the Strawberry Fields top enough, it’s such a pretty design and once you’ve mastered the design it’s quite quick and easy to do 💕🍓

Ooo poison sachets, might have to look into those for just in case, I’m doubly paranoid now lol. I think the expensive ones tend to be from dealers rather than individuals selling relatives old stuff. I don’t mind a fixer upper project if it has a nice back story to it 💕 much nicer than the dealers ones that tend to be painted which in my opinion takes all the character out of them!
