Thank you for the presentation , Happy to see proactive conservation too. doing the right things for the right reasons! amazing, a paper filled with badly sourced data gets away saying "more research to corroborate" disclaimer AFTER " ten miles of unbroken prehistoric art found" yadda yadda !

I've been interested in native american history all my life. From the first time I picked up a flint projectile point as a youth and wondered who the person was that created it and what they were like. I think it's a facination that people either have or they don't. I find it hard to believe that some people or maybe even alot of people are oblivious to the deeper meaning behind some of these ancient artifacts. I was aware of these petroglyphs before but it was really refreshing to hear them discussed in greater detail. Great video! 👍

As one of the proud Utah Stewards I can tell you that Ian and the rest of the Utah SHPO do a great job with this program. Every site I've been introduced to has been fully hands on with true professionals that understand the site thoroughly. Every project I've assisted with, likewise, has been stacked with professional archaeologists from various organizations and it's fun to get to pester them with your questions and ideas while you work alongside them.

Is it my imagination or do the Pecos River-style look similar to the Sierra de San Francisco of central Baja California? Did both culture's have a common connection through migration? What are the age differences of Texas and Baja rock art?

Thank you very much for a nice review and evaluation of quick interpretations. I am archaeologist, but this is the first time I have read about these findings. Regarding the place, it strikes me that this is an important place. Ethnographically, rocks or natural landmarks are used in ritual contexts. Both this rock art and the rock as parts of the same context go together with ethnographic documentation. Regarding the context and the animal motifs, the first thing that strikes me is that several of the animals may have been parts of mythological and religious stories. They may also have been made over a longer period of time and perhaps at different times. Maybe the horse can be explained like this? Interesting is when animals and people have human-like and enlarged hands. In Norway where Im working, rock art archaeologists sometimes interprete large hands as "warm hands" or in other words healing abilities. Further on people may carried animals abilities and they might be mixed i rockartimages. Shamanism may be a next step in such an interpretation. Im regularly in gorgious Colombia, and now I have to try to see the rock art you convey in Serrania La Lindosa. One more time, thank you very much!

Thank you for this video. Petroglyphs are not only rock art, they try to send us messages. Unfortunately, we don't always understand them. They can refer to the most dramatic event in the history of mankind. That is a recurring disaster that is caused by the ninth planet in our solar system encircling our sun in an eccentric orbit. When that planet is approaching our sun, people see a reddish spiral and only hours later the image changes into an eight beamed star and later to a square cross. These symbols are found worldwide. The disaster is best known as the Great Flood and it wipes out the existing civilization. After many years a new civilization emerges. The last disaster was in the year 3,644 BCE and that planet was seen again just before our era. We explain much more about planet 9, the recurring flood cycle and its timeline, the rebirth of civilizations and ancient advanced technology in the e-book: "Planet 9 = Nibiru". It shows abundant and convincing evidence both in text and many depictions. It can be read on any computer, tablet or smartphone. Search: planet 9 roest

Interesting. Those fragments would still be in the Museum basement, if someone hadn’t fought to get them returned. I heard a saying recently, don’t forget who brought you to the dance.

Thank you for this video. There is a recurring natural disaster that happens once every few thousand years. As long as there are people walking around on our planet, the survivors of such a disaster want to warn the next civilization about this. That disaster is caused by a celestial body, a planet. During the approach of that planet 9 its appearance changes. Far away we see a vague spiral, closer it becomes a 'star' with eight rays. Even closer, it looks like a square cross with fanning ends. The swastika is a form of this and comes in two mirrored variations. In this video we see the square cross and swastika several times. The last time that planet was seen was shortly before our era, but it is more likely that the crossing before that, around the year 3,644 BCE, caused a greater disaster. A person with their hands up indicates a startle response. These wymbols are known worldwide and recorded in a rock or on a stone art object and later on coins. To learn much more about planet 9, the recurring flood cycle and its timeline, the rebirth of civilizations and ancient high technology, read the e-book: "Planet 9 = Nibiru". This book answers many of your questions about ancient history. It can be read on any computer, tablet or smartphone. Search: planet 9 roest

Thank you for a fascinating lecture, Anne. My grandfather was Peter Garlake, so it is great to learn more about his area of expertise. We still have some family in Zimbabwe, and I have been lucky enough to visit some of the cave paintings there - truly magical and unforgettable. One thing I would like to pass on for future presentations (please pass on the message to Anne, if she does not see this comment directly!) is that the portrait photograph of 'Peter Garlake' is not in fact actually him - I'm not sure who it is in the photo! Many thanks again.

It's is being debated now as to whether or not the horse may have been here before the Spanish. Now that would change everything once again. Someday i'm going to look into this further.

I'm not a rock art expert. But upon viewing these, I would like to point out that the idea of perspective was not unknown to them. A larger figure is meant to show that this figure is closer than the background figures, hence they are smaller. I'm surprised that the expedition photographer didn't catch that. Not that it changes the pictures much, but it does show more nuance to whatever meanings these paintings had. Also, the various levels of drawing skills by various artists speak of some rites that had to be recorded by the one involved. Perhaps a first hunt, a first war trip, a vision quest, something. Some life event that repeated, with variations, to the point that in time the pictographs had to be layered on over older records. Again, a layman who has observed a fair amount of early North American rock art because it is a heritage from our ancestors. ✌️

Thanks for the presentation. The stories come before the images, but the stories would then evolve over generations - and maybe over age groups and gender. The stories recorded today do then not necessarily reflect the original artist's intentions.

I can see the art everywhere. I have the updated version built into my eyes. I collect it, because most people just don't believe me. I sent photos and spoke with the head of artifacts for the local tribe (Grand Ronde) and she thought it was natural and not made by man. I was in shock she didn't want it and now I have a ton of art and tools that I have collected, but it is everywhere. You're not seeing the images in white or the shapes of the rocks. Images are everywhere and I can't un-see what I now can recognize. It really sucks.

Been doing research on San people of Zimbabwe, they still exist today. If you go to Tsolotso or Plumtree there is small communities left. There is a documentary made about them and they were interviewed. There is around 2500 left in total,so they still exist.Another documentary about them is now in production.

The main character which is their main art. Usually is their land claim. Some show places with water, the odd ones spiritual caves etc. they aren’t a mystery. Peterborough glyph park is the best example of this. It’s pathways around the watery areas. It can be treacherous without a map.
