This guitar popped up as an ad on my Facebook and I had a look. Never been a Yamaha fan (am now, have 2). I found this review and it sold me. Gotta say, this guitar is possibly one of the smoothest playing guitars I've ever owned. I like a wide fretboard but with this you don't feel cramped at all. The sound is very crisp and full and surprisingly robust. It looks very nice, too. The bridge is very funky to look at. I bought some bone bridge pins with some abalone and it looks great. I have some very fine guitars of a high end and I still enjoy this one the most. It sounds great through an amp (even a bass amp). Currently I've ordered a Roland ac33 and hopefully it will sound great through it. I've tried pedals and they all sound fantastic. Doesn't seem to matter what I throw at the guitar - it exceeds all expectations. I have a very expensive parlour guitar from a notable brand that is fabulous in build, but this csf3m is louder and more fun to play. I have owned it for just iver a year and it is opening up even more.

Excellent review, very fair. I own a cheap Crafter classical with all laminate but an xlr pickup and Truss-rod... The tone was a bit "meh" when I got it but it really opened up and sounds spectacular when tuned to open-G and used for Paul Brady style folk

For a solo performer singing and playing and wants an fx loop for vocals and acoustic guitar, is this the only thing on the market that can do that? It’s quite a lot to spend, but it does replace a lot of separate pedals (less points of failure, less cables, one power source, always set up and ready to go). Right now I’m using hi-low z converters like the templo splyce, and a custom output box to give me a panel to plug guitar and xlr separately to the house board. Zoia), but I may add the new templo compressor to the vocal channel. I think the only other thing I wish I had was a dry signal outs so the house can blend the stage mix but I could use a signal splitter before the fx. So much to consider but it seems like it could be the exact thing I’ve been researching and trying to find for many years.

Many thanks for the review - much appreciated. This amp is much louder than described. I own one of these amps and you need to crank the physical volume knob on the unit. The master fader in the app only goes up to where the physical knob is set. It produces ear bleeding volumes when the physical knob is properly cranked up. Hope this helps! 😊

Reminds me of the old EKO we all played in the early 70s... They weighed a ton. I felt the pickup was bland, but the acoustic tone was ok

I enjoy Ben's critiques, but I wish he would review guitars that are of a higher quality than this one. It makes sense to me to review guitars that minimally have solid wood tops.

Something about an acoustic guitar's body and an electric guitar's headstock looks so wrong to me... This is a beautiful looking guitar, apart from the headstock (which would look great on an electric guitar).
@mailvilla
@mailvilla 16 күн бұрын
One advantage to this headstock is there is no angles from tuners to nut, which helps keep better tune.
@SamiKankaristo
@SamiKankaristo 16 күн бұрын
@@mailvilla Sure, but that's not exclusive to this Fender/6-in-line style headstock. PRS headstocks (and some others) also have the strings running straight after the nut. This just looks really weird and a bit off-putting on an acoustic (to me, anyway). I don't really know why, maybe it's just so rare and unusual on an acoustic. I have a couple of electric guitars with this type of headstock, and it looks fine on those. One disadvantage of this style of headstock is that the strings are longer behind the nut, which makes them ring if you strum hard. That can happen with any type of headstock, but it's more of an issue when the strings are longer behind the nut. But that can be pretty easily fixed by putting something soft on the headstock, lightly touching the strings behind the nut. So not a huge disadvantage. BTW, the sound at the very beginning of "The Curse of Castle Dragon" by Paul Gilbert is him strumming the strings behind the nut.

Of course it needs a setup. I’m surprised you don’t know that guitars are normally setup by the builder with slightly high action because some players want them that way and you can’t raise the action after you file the nut and the saddle. You can always lower but you need to buy a new nut/saddle to raise.

10 points for your actual thoughts on this, which strike me as well-balanced and objective, albeit straining a bit towards keeping the amp in a positive light despite its obvious drawbacks. Large and hefty, and yet underpowered, with compromised phantom power voltage and too little tweakability of the effects? There are other, much better options out there. Why the market needs yet another such amp that shows no real progress escapes me. For me, acoustic amps have long since ceased being my go-to solution for solo playing and singing. Instead, a powered PA speaker (e.g. an EV Everse 8) with built-in effects gets me a lot farther, with less bulk and pretentiousness, and far greater flexibility (also due to app control for those who wish to use it). Add a small pedalboard or something like the TC Helicon VoiceLive 3 Extreme, and you‘re good to go. I used to own an AER 60-watt, but it was also compromised, also in terms of bass response (especially notable for my baritonish vocals). Side note: On future demos, how about not only playing in drop D? No offense intended, but for me, that droning D muddies the acoustic waters when trying to judge overall frequency response. Heaps of reviewers seem to love to demo stuff (especially guitars) in drop D, but same story, there. Just a thought…

I like mine a lot. Easier to play than a big dreadnought. Since I usually play electrics (SG, strat, tele) the neck feels pretty normal. Big headache is the battery pack. You have to loosen strings to get at the cheap velcro bag. Thinking about reposistioning the battery pack to the edge of the lateral sound port to faciliate battery changes. Has anyone has tried this?

Thanks for the test drives! I am planning an extended cruise adventure to Antarctica, next year, and cannot imagine several days at sea without something to play.... Most of my playing is bluegrass in group settings, but being a converted folkie, I think that the Puddle Jumper can be a tolerable solo or duo instrument, if my flat-picking is not too aggressive.... I wish I could find one locally to test drive, or hear a strong flat-picker playing in a video. I love my dreads, but flying to Argentina, and back from Chile, I will need to compromise, a bit!
