Hi friend<3 hearing you gush about the great alone made me think so much of 'Betty', by Tiffany McDaniel. I would thoroughly recommend it to you and anyone reading this. It also is very much a "read the trigger warnings bc it's a lot" type of read. It is based on the the account and journals of the author's mother, and is set in 20th century Appalachia. The housemaid was surprising to see on your list here, but then I got to the actual review and it made sense 🥴🤪

Cleopatra & Frankenstein is really the same vibes as Blue Sisters, BUT it is also really obvious her first big novel (at least I think? Correct me if I’m wrong). The story is entertaining and the writing is also really flowy, and clever but the characters also lacked some depth for me and were really cliché stereotypical. Would still recommend Cleopatra & Frankenstein, but maybe not after first reading Blue Sisters because your expectations then might be a bit too high?

i read six books in january, including ‘stalking jack the ripper’ (3 stars for me), ‘gwen & art are not in love’ (4 stars for me, a cute queer arthurian era story) and ‘divine rivals’ (4 stars as well, good, but not outstanding to me personally). i’m currently reading ‘ruthless vows’ and it’s honestly so good, but i can’t find time to read because of exam season :’) thank you so much for this video, i always love your content and your reading taste is really great

6:14 ik snap je helemaal met het overweldigd raken van berichten. Weet niet of het ermee temaken heeft dat ik jaren (8) geleden ook een burn out gehad heb, maar heb me er zelf hoe dan ook gewoon bij neergelegd dat ik niet zo bereikbaar ben, en m’n naasten inmiddels ook dus vind het priem zo. Als ze me echt nodig hebben kunnen ze bellen - dat komt bijna nooit voor. En gewoon geregeld een datumpje prikken om irl bij te kletsen of (langer) te beeldbellen is prima te doen, zelfs al woon ik in Maastricht en bijna al m’n vrienden in de Randstad. Die lange facetime sessies zijn voor mij echt een uitkomst zodat ik niet de hele tijd ‘aan’ hoef te zijn online voor kleine snelle updates, maar gewoon kan opdagen voor de afspraak en thats that. Praat gerust een hele avond (online) bij met een vriendin met meerdere kopjes thee 1x per 2-3 weken, en in de tussentijd verdwijn ik in m’n hermit hol 😅

you should definitely read rebecca and the picture of dorian gray, they both are such great books! i wouldn’t say rebecca is a very scary book (and this comes from a person who cannot watch a horror film), although the atmosphere certainly is quite mysterious and gothic
