< that this is our family crest the beginning of your piece is the entry of the illegals and then .. realization that their no job no food no schools set to give illegals entry , then the 10 trillion spent on war and wasted giveaways to illegals in rooms food and phones cars and ect ect , the illegals have started hiring their own trashing the laws and making loans buy housing for their other illegals yes the piece of work your friend wrote it should just like our national debt steven R Drury

Was this the piece of which Stravinsky said, it’s relentlessly pretty and pretty relentless’? Mind you, he’d had to put up with the avant garde booing his neo classical work, so fair dinkum!

Конечно, в познавательном плане очень интересно. Когда не смотришь на исполнителей, кажется, что двое, не владеющих инструментом, просто балуются. Необходимо иметь достаточный уровень наслышенности, и тогда начинаешь вникать и принимать автора

I’ve been trying to open myself to more dissonant works, and I still can’t stand it. Ravel, Scriabin’s works, idk it just seems people try to derive some deep meaning out of noise. I, maybe even foolishly, assert that I could write something like this. Perhaps people have different opinions on what defines music. Personally, I believe music should consist of harmony and some sort of set structure with eventual resolutions to any hanging chords. Scriabin’s sonata 5 is the last of his which fits my criteria, while still challenging my ear. If anyone actually reads this who can listen to this, I’d like to know your perspective.

I think a key takeaway you can use is philosophical. There are no bad sounds, only sounds that are too loud or annoyingly high pitched. Dissonance exists, and it’s a way of expressing emotions. Oftentimes composers are still very much trying to be expressive with their music, but the expression they’re sharing is a different one that can be conveyed based on rules set in the 17th century. Take Scriabin’s sonata 6 for example: Scriabin is trying to depict an evil force that’s corrupting and seducing a pure soul, and he uses his expanded tonality to try to make the listener feel those emotions and see the image he is trying to paint. Listening to challenging music is really about having an open mind, and sometimes it takes practice, but I think it’s very worth it. I hope this helps.

@@ThatOneGuyRAR I have been on a journey listening to more modern compositions, and I have started to accept it much more. I’ve listened to all of Prokofiev’s sonatas, listened to lots of Ravel’s works, and I’ve found them to be an acquired taste which I have grown into. This very sonata I’ve grown to appreciate for the emotion it’s supposed to express. It’s not supposed to be a “playlist” piece. Another large scale work I could compare it to is Rautavaara’s first concerto. It’s so comedically dissonant, yet there is melody, and it feels completely extraterrestrial. Now I don’t see myself warming up to noise like Michael Finnissy’s concertos or English Country Tunes, but I definitely have learned to appreciate pieces like these more.
