Sorry for your Loss. I took an observation hive to a market this past weekend. The kids love it and I was surprised how many adults were interested. I had the bees out of the hive for about 24 hours. I didn't see any issue.
@hamburghoney8 күн бұрын
Two questions Brian, are you allowed to feed while you use the Voroxxan? Also by shaking those bees out do you think if a couple thousand went into one hive would they bother the queen that was in that hive(kill her)?
@CastleHives8 күн бұрын
They actually encourage you to feed as it helps distribute the VarroxSan. The colony i shook out, not worried.

Hi from southern New Zealand 👋 😃 had to miss your live chat because I had splits to check, spring has sprung 😂 the thyme is at the purple top stage which means its a week until blossom opening and the purple honey carpet comes out in central Otago 😁love that hive alive syrup, i saw the same results on a Jerome bee farm video, they suck it down quickly, very impressive. I think it would be handy if you came across a light colony you wanted to get emergency weight into fast, im always impressed with hive alive products and use thier fondant for late winter boosting even though my colony's are stocked up with stores because im certain it helps brood start up and sets a good population foundation. Love those straps, im thinking about converting. I brought new metal emlock straps and they suck😂 the old school ones are great but the two new ones i picked up the other day at farmlands are terrible bloody things, gonna ditch them and get tiedown straps

I like using those harbor freight straps. They paid for themselves when I had 70 mph winds during one storm. Cheap insurance.
@CastleHives10 күн бұрын
Exactly. We've had a few storms that come through and I don't worry. The added 5 minutes time is nothing when compared to cleaning up hives that were knocked over cause of wind.

@@CastleHives Which is basically unimportant when it comes to a hive and thats been proven time and time again. That hive design doesnt improve on a standard langstroth in any way and is arguably worse in every way. Im not saying it wont work but for all practical purposes its terrible. Non standard frame size (have fun trying to extract honey, do inspections or find your queen), brittle (no chance that will hold up to a hive tool once it get propolized together), terrible insulation unless you do some crazy infill (they couldnt even be bothered to see what types of infill offer better insulation values), expensive, takes FOREVER to print a part let alone an entire hive and the list goes on.

I love that queen in the second box she was so big i could see her from down here in southern New Zealand 😂 great brood comb though, wow that's awesome. Seems like all the beekeepers i watch from the states are having the same thing happen, nice brood and great autumn flow to build into winter. Brilliant 👍 im kinda weirded out about the queen cells though maybe it's a pheromone issue because that brood looked fantastic 🤷😃
@CastleHivesАй бұрын
I was weirded out also seeing those cells. I think, at least my guess, is that since she is a newer Queen that her pheromones aren't quite strong enough yet. Her pattern and behavior is great, so we'll see. Those cells were moved, so hopefully i'll get another one like her. Appreciate you watching. And from New Zealand at that. .
@ManuherikiabeekeepingАй бұрын
I was supposed to receive queens this week In a couple of days but spring, which up to this point has been 62 degrees F and clear skys decided to go to the pub and gave winter the keys to get back in 🥶 the blossoms popping out but it's to damn cold for the bee's to fly 😬 3 inches of snow on the ground, we got more snow this week than we had all winter. Disaster for the pollenation circuit guys around here and the willows have just started producing pollen which is a disaster for me 🤦 been waiting for it all winter 😂 is what it is can't have a great start every year. Pollen sub on and extra feed so everything is alright, I don't think I'll get too much of a drop in brood production 🤔

I wonder on that old queen (red) hive if they aren't wanting to supercede?? Are you doing any feeding yet or are you waiting on a fall flow? Have a good weekend. Do you have another market this weekend?

Little bit of both, fed til the flow started. I'll keep an eye and as soon as it slows up some, they'll get feed back on. This weekend is relax, no market. Going to my sons and they're cooking out. Hope you have a good weekend as well Russell.
