Gorgeous train ride. My question, as an eastern European, when it's called narrow gauge, is it just like European narrow gauge? It seems to be an awfully big train compared with our narrow gauge trains. I know that American standard gauge and Euro are the same width. Secondly, are the two locomotives really needed on that route (because of steepness) or is it just for safety? I know nothing about railways, but I'm a fan.
@ArkansasLocomotiveWorks6 күн бұрын
There's many different narrow gauges. The essential definition of "narrow gauge" is stuff that's less wide than standard gauge. And the two engines are needed to properly go up the steep hills and mountains.

Two reasons: A. I've never documented the locomotive B. I don't like the locomotive in general so I have zero intentions of documenting it.

I encourage everyone to support New Mexico Heritage Rail, because even though they aren't able to run 2926 on the mainline yet, their events are still great and they have lots of other projects they need to work on. And when this 4-8-4 pulls her first mainline excursion, it will be one of if not the biggest steam events of the year that it happens!

My son is special needs and he loves trains 🚆🚃🚄🚅🚇🚈🚉🚊🚝🚞🛤🚋 especially steam locomotives 🚂 like those he says that a man by the name of Steve Poole once said: "When a steam locomotive gets underway it looks and sounds like nothing else that's why many people love them even though they are getting pretty old". And he agrees with him on that completely!

Memories gone by, machines of the past once large now just a fragment of what they once were reduced to a whistle, screaming out into the darkness letting people remember the times gone by when steam was king, when you could hear that banshee whistle blow out into the endless night never resting until they met their end right were they began, recycled, repurposed, years of service forgotten only remembered by the sound of shrill whistles screaming out into the mountains reminding people of times gone by.
I will forever adore Hancock Long Bell 3 Chimes like the one on DM&IR 228

Very neat trip. I’ve done this three times and burger and a beer at Handle bars in Silverton really hits the spot. A word of advice to those who haven’t made this trip. Take the bus back to your starting point if you’re on a tight schedule.
