Blurring Boundaries

Blurring Boundaries is a contextual architecture and interior design studio, engaged in creating sustainable and appropriate design solutions. It is based in Mumbai and Wada, Maharashtra.

Our practice is artisanal, innovative, experimental and collaborative with a staunch belief in ‘glocal’ and sustainable practices. It focuses on small details along with the larger perspective and works on all aspects in detail.
We believe that design can transform us and must be used sensibly and sustainability is beneficial in the larger scheme of things. We try to use locally available materials but experimenting and reinterpreting them, leading to unique contemporary designs. We attempt to practice an architecture where there is a seamless transition between the physical, psychological, social and cultural elements of space. It embraces the contrasts in human nature, behaviours and social practices and translates the contrast into design and physical spaces, hence the name Blurring Boundaries.

0:20 what's he think he's doing there...cooking street food? seems to be an indian thing to pour water over your hands for no reason. Infact the lime he is pouring in the mix is incredibly caustic. so all he is doing is ruining his hands.

It is an extremely diluted version of lime water. We have asked them to use mugs. The reason is that it is important that the water doesn't get poured in one portion and create lumps.

What is the plywood thickness and wight, and any particular brand you suggest?

It is 18mm-25mm thick. No particular brand but it should be marine ply. Also the brand stamped ink on the ply can come on the walls. So it is better to remove it on the inner side, if possible.

This techinique only reduces cost. Not Room Temperature. Since No Airpockets created if we use pots! Use double Mangalore Roof tiles to drop room temperature!

While there is no insulation air pocket created, it helps lower the temperature since the terracotta pots help in cooling the ambient temperature.

Styrofoam that is pulverized back to tiny balls should be used for the aggregate, 1, 2, 5 Cement, sand, styrofoam, very lightweight...first put down thin layer of cement, sand 1:2, then the 1, 2, 5 styrocrete, then a thin top coat of cement, sand 1:2. Very strong, lightweight and long lasting, and cheap...
