We had rough winter storm blow through North Central Texas a few years back. Our power cycled on for 1 hour and then off for 45 minutes. I ran my 50g and 240g tanks off a single generator till the power to the house was constantly on. That on/off cycling lasted 3 days. I went through roughly 10 gallons of gas for +/- 72 hours running all lights, pumps, heaters, and skimmers. If you live in an area with prolonged blackouts during storms I don't know how anyone's tanks could survive without a generator. That one storm cause countless tank crashes in Texas and many folks just gave up on the hobby.

Sorry to hear you and the tank had to go through that. I remember reading on forums about people's tanks. So tragic. 😔 I'm a firm believer that having any form of backup power is a must in this hobby. A backup for a backup is never a bad idea either.

How long do you keep them in the freshwater bath?
@TheAcroReef4252 ай бұрын
Just a few seconds! I prep the bath at the same temp as the tank water, dip the coral one at a time for 10-15 seconds. Just before I pull them out, I use the turkey baster to blow on the coral and in doing that, the AEWF babies and adults drop right off. The Acro colony itself is going to be stressed and will lose its color after the dip, but usually recovers in about a month.

Check fixture temp and power consumption. They lower their output if you really squeez them out. Especially UV and HV Channel produce lots of heat and cause the fixture to power adjustments and then you do not get out of it as you want….
@TheAcroReef4252 ай бұрын
Hey, I appreciate the tip about the lights! Although I can't say I've experienced that outcome, I'll keep an eye out for it nonetheless. I do check their internal temp from time to time and they usually don't get hotter than 61C, but that's probably because the house runs a bit cooler too, 68F. 🙂

Hello, do you recommend a ozone monitor?
@TheAcroReef4252 ай бұрын
I wouldn't get it unless you plan to regularly monitor ORP. Depending on what's doing the monitoring, if you're going to use an aquarium controller, there's certainly a good value in having continuous monitoring and data recording. On my ProfiLux controller, I get to track how ORP changes throughout the day. The number itself isn't too important to me. What I'm after is the stability of that parameter. If I see a sudden spike or drop, the ProfiLux will notify me. That's when I know somethings up and I should check the tank... There's a great value in having that type of information.
@moisespellot1945 ай бұрын
I just purchased one, and I was not able to pressurize the carbon side like you have it here. How you have it is not how the manual says it should be run. I figured out the carbon side is leaking air from the center tube, not sitting tightly to the out port. I cut a 1/2 silicone tube and jamed in it there to create a tight seal. , I can now pressurize the carbon side, and it now rains like it's supposed to. Water lvl should not be higher than the bottom white plate. I see many videos like this one and some properly run. Seems like avast quality control issues. Great video, not many out there on this equipment. Good luck, happy reefing .

That's just the pump controller (Versia Controller) which is controlled by the ProfiLux 4. The mini might be suitable depending on what exactly you're looking for in terms of control and monitoring. Wow the attention to detail is incredible. The GHL automation really seems to be leaps and bounds ahead of other aquarium controllers. What kind of learning curve is it to program the sensors and functions? Do you need to know coding to do the programing? I am tech savvy but I lack programming knowledge. What kind of time frame did it take to get to your current set up? Thank you for sharing much appreciated. I am in the planing stages for my dream set up. I am considering either a water box peninsula 7225 or a Cade peninsula 1800. I want the tank to have dynamic dosing and auto water changes as well.
@TheAcroReef4259 ай бұрын
Thank you! I will say that what's in the tank now for automation was a steady progress. The initial setup was pretty straightforward, and I don't think you have to be technically savvy to set it up. It took me about 2 full years to get the "core" of my automation goals completed. That includes testing devices (KHD / IOND), fan control, backup measures, etc. The AWC part of it was implemented about 1 year into the tank startup. ATO was done on day 1. Calcium, Alkalinity, Mag dosing about 3 months in. If you haven't settled yet on which controller to get, consider this... The best thing you can do for yourself is have a clear goal and plan in-mind before jumping into any controller. You can do a whole lot with controllers and it's fantastic, but when you get it, if no clear plan has been defined ahead of time, it's going to get overwhelming quick! That applies to all controller brands! Read the documentation and product pages, get some kind of understanding of what YOU want out of a controller, consider what expansion options are doable (but don't focus too heavily on reading about it if it doesn't apply to what YOU want today) and define a clear goal for yourself BEFORE jumping in an getting one. Reading about them on forums is nice and all but take what you see there with a grain of salt. Also, ask yourself what is the single most important thing you look for in a controller? For me, it was reliability above all. I couldn't care less about pretty interfaces and neither do the fish. Correct me if I'm wrong, but fishes are more appreciative of equipment that is tried, true and tested to be reliable. :) My controller search ended in 2006 when I asked myself who had the longest track record for reliability. That's how I found GHL and their ProfiLux 2...years later I've gone and upgraded to the current ProfiLux 4 and Dosers and couldn't be happier. When I first setup the P2 controller, there were barely any how-to videos and guides out there. Nowadays, you have a lot to choose from. Setting up dosing schedules, timers, probe controls are done with drop-down boxes. Probe calibration is also straightforward since it can be done through the app. I never had to learn any level of coding even when I had the ProfiLux 2 back in 2006. :) You can't go wrong with either tank options! I'm excited for you. Take your time with the equipment part of it. If you want to get into a controller, just start with the basics (temp control and pH monitoring), all else can come later down the road. Best on your new tank journey!
