You don't have to go that deep.This song is about a poker player.He is good poker player and he cannot express his feelings."He wears a one mask " that means he doesn't show any feeling and no one believes him because of that he fails in love
@GhostGuitars3 ай бұрын
True, you dont HAVE to go that deep, but Sting's lyrics are often full of extra meanings. Thanks for taking the time to write!

Just came here after watching your analysis of Assassin, by John Mayer. You said then that in live performances he used to play a solo (or something like this) of this song by The Police.
@GhostGuitars4 ай бұрын
yeah, the melody that comes in before the vocals. I saw John Mayer in London on the Battle Studies tour and he played that melody at the end Assassin. GREAT show
@NoBSAffiliateCoaching5 ай бұрын
Haha as a singer that has stopped due to long Covid that was an interesting take 🤣
@GhostGuitars4 ай бұрын
have you tried to perform this on vocals? Def worth a try, and no lyrics/warm up required

Secret society initiation, surely!!
@GhostGuitars4 ай бұрын
I dont believe so. Sting is very well read but I dont think he has ever referenced secret societies in lyrics, generally prefers to go for more universal themes but often uses literary references

100% “I’ve only come here seeking knowledge, things they wouldn’t teach me up in college.” (Forbidden knowledge) Or “I can see the destiny you sold, turn into a shining band of Gold” selling your soul to learn how to turn base metals into gold like alchemy/the Faustian deal. Also the white robe he wears represents the uninitiated/innocent/pure that needs to die for you to reach enlightenment.

the dry sound of the fretless suits gypsy jazz really well i think :) really different to how other jazz guitarists are always trying to get as much sustain as possible
@GhostGuitars11 ай бұрын
The sound is leaning towards that of a violin I guess, and Stephane Grappelli's wonderful playing is on the original recording of this. This is a cheap steel string acoustic that I defretted and put on different strings. If you want to hear more of this guitar look up 'The Nomad' from my solo album Space Alchemy kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGnIhY2pf5d2l9U
