I was on my agencies bulls eye pistol match team and we were issued S&W model 52 .38 Special Wadcutter rounds, extremely accurate this bring before IPSC AND similar combat shooting venues. Issued a box with scope target scoring items, front sight blackener, and some tools. Now in a carry pistol stag but target pistol leave as you got it. Nice pistol for a fact. I am a big fan of the 1911 38 Super.

Jimmy I am sorry but stop and think, do you have to rack any. 45 semi auto pistol against your thigh and hip that springs are not right.
@mikemccray944412 күн бұрын
Sorry guy but here's something you might try take the springs out so you can operate the bolt easier then you can operate your bolt and see how far back it goes to eject the old case and see where's it at above the magazine, that should say something I think
@tomw.651112 күн бұрын
GI Thompson mags work well with the 1927s, but you have to add some space to the locking hole with a dremel tool to get the magazine catch to lock in.
@matthewsullivan553112 күн бұрын
My problem was that I had to drill the hole for the magazine catch in every magazine. If that hole is drilled even a fraction too high, the magazine will drop down and won't be able to grab the next round.

@mikemccray944412 күн бұрын
Hey Jimmy the reason I suggested to replacing the original springs is that I watch FORGOTTEN WRAPONS and he did a series on the Tommy guns, and the one thing that he touched on was the rate of fire between the models of 1921 and 1928. The 1921 model had a rate of around 800 rpm and after the bolt for the 28 model took it down to around 600 rpm. So on the drum mags it would say on a plate 11 twist for the 1921 model and 9 twist for the 1928 model. So I'm thinking your spring in the stick mag and how far back the bolt is going the timing is so close. By the way the 1928 was a over stamp of the 1921

these semi Thompson's are awful ,I wont work on them anymore . the feed ramps are different gun to gun, no consistency in manufacturing . also the magazine catches usually need to be fitted properly so the magazine locks in . broken extractors ,striker assemblies ,firing pins, sear interface and ejectors are all problems I've encountered with these semi autos. also the longer barrels on the semi autos seem to be prone to squibs . I've had a few with bullets stacked up down the barrel and one that split open. I'm not sure if its just the barrel length or a tight spot in the bore that causes this. they do look nice as far as the exterior metal and wood goes, otherwise its an expensive wall hanger.

Hey Jimmy we've talked before about your Tommy gun and about mine with the shoulder harness so I can swing my Tommy gun under my arm. I didn't like the original recoil springs and replace them with a easier to rack one's it also included a buffer pad just thinking that might help you out with the jamming because the originals were to stiff.

Hi Jimmy, thank you for confirming how finicky your wadcutter Giles is. I have a '78 .38 super converted by Giles that does the same thing. It's one deadly accurate 1911at distance but it's annoying as all get out to keep clearing the feed issues. It was my dads gun for decades. He won it in a poker game and never shot the thing. When he passed away in 2017 I inherited it. It's got a fun story to tell and cool history...but far from fun to shoot. At least in my experience and opinion. I wish it was still a regular unmodified 38 Super!
@jimmysautoparts245218 күн бұрын
I agree. They are great shooters but just too finicky. I just picked up what I think will turn out to be the same. Found it online at Bass Pro used guns. 1960 Super 38 Giles modified. I bet when it gets here it shoots 38 wadcutters and not 38 Supers. Thanks for watching, Jimmy

I inherited a 1978 Giles .38 super converted to 38 midrange. She's a hell of an accurate & flat shooter but a finicky little bugger. Nice piece of history for bullseye fans. I havent fired it in a few years. It wasnt a sentimental piece for my dad. He won it in a poker game. So I plan to find it a new home soon. Thinking someone else would appreciate it more than me.
