Excellent! I built a shooting board for the same purpose but mine leaves the wood flat and tilts the plane. Either way this is a great way to have perfect miters.

I had this exact tabletop (with more distinctive ball-and-claw feet) in college. I believe these are 48" round and extend a further 50" with the help of five 10" leaves, quite an exceptional range. Seems a shame to leave it like this -- replace those leaves!

Your thorough work results in an antique table that looks brand new. I can appreciate that (you do beautiful work), but I’m not sure it adds to the magnificence of the piece… and it detracts from its provenance.

Hi, this is very interesting. I am preparing to build something similar having built one about 20 years ago following the designs of John Arrowsmith who was originally a designer for Ebac. He is no longer alive. My comments for what they are worth are that your temperature control is unnecessarily sensitive and the amount of heat you require is a bit high. I prefer to have a probe in the wood within the kiln (somewhere in the middle of the stack) which gives access to daily monitor the wood moisture level. I also have a remote air probe within the box with can then control the heat source. When using a lower heat source the initial extraction rate is slow until enough mass heats up. Then as the vapour condenses it releases dormant heat so the whole cycle speeds up. The practical advantage is that the stress upon the wood is reduced and the resultant damage or case hardening is much reduced or better still non-existant. Produces

The owls like "you didn't see anything right? "
@willgraham88783 жыл бұрын
The owl is a Barred Owl and its victim is a Merlin Falcon. Merlins are extremely fast flyers with very quick reflexes I have to wonder how the owl was able to catch it initially. My guess is that the Merlin was harassing the owl which they often do and got accidentally caught by the owl when making one of its dive bombs. This must have been filmed in a North Latitude state or Canada because Merlins mostly frequent Northern zones.

Good call and absolutely spot on. I've got 30yrs experience in the avian field. And have worked "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey. And Barred Owl's are EXTREMELY powerful and aggressive owls. Often seeing during the day as well as at night. It's at least 2 to 3x the size of the Merlin.

Some people get insanely offended by the slightest appearance of criticism (especially the ones that are intended as humor). On the for real though the fact that he was able to record an owl at ANYTIME and especially during the daytime is damn near impossibly lucky . Then on top of this they caught the aftermath of one elusive raptor attacked by an even more elusive raptor is just nuts. Sometimes it seems like a lot of people aren't aware of how fearsome and capable that our buddies, the owl truly is. I give this video two thumbs up, shiiiit I'm gonna go ahead and award you three thumbs up!

I have been researching these getting ready to build this spring. Is the heat really necessary (Outside of winter drying), I have heard a number of people,including professional kiln dryers say insulate a box and put a dehumidifier in it and it will work just fine. Have you tried just running the dehumidifier only? Thanks for posting this.
@doitnewitt41633 жыл бұрын
Hi David, a lot of variables for heat, winter temps yes. You need the heat at the end to kill the bugs .. too much heat in the beginning and you will case harden the wood . The slower you can dry it in a kiln the better ... that is what I’ve learned . Production kilns have the science figured out, hobby kilns just need patience
@David-fv7zg3 жыл бұрын
@@doitnewitt4163 yes, I agree. Heat at the end of dehumidification drying is what I have heard as well. Thanks for doing this.
