This speaker sets the standard for high-end speakers. A speaker that produces sound worse than this speaker is not a high-end speaker.

I think the original recording had some (arguably mild) shortcomings. I remain a fan of the Piega Coax / Boulder system, I suspect it sounds just like the recording. THANKS for all you do on your channel, you do a great job recording systems, IMO! Cheers. :)

Thank you for this. Reminds me of why the Watt/Puppy has always been my favorite Wilson loudspeaker. I heard a similar setup at a dealer. I visited to hear the XVX driven by big Boulder amps and Peter McGrath streaming over DCS. Couldn't stand the sound. Felt like laser beams firing at me. I walked over to a smaller room with Wilson Sabrinas driven by a Boulder integrated playing vinyl through the small Boulder phono. I preferred that sound much more. The return of the Watt/Puppy builds on that sound, as your video demonstrates.

That system was certainly up to that track. Tonally accurate and beautiful, not challenging to reproduce compared to a symphony, say. Pleasant if not spectacular. I find myself wondering what it would sound like with "Woman In Chains" by Tear For Fears (The Seeds Of Love, 1989), which as more depth, I guess I would say, as a recording. Thanks for today's recording. Cheers. :)

Pretty enjoyable, even if not my favorite classical track. Pitch and so much else done so nicely. Only question is if the hall / recording effect can be escaped in sound reproduction. Would one need a similar sized hall and volume to get away from it? I continue wondering if the Piega / Boulder system you showcase in another video would be so transparent, or otherwise manage to overcome the hall / recording effect. What do you guys think about that, and the "hall" / recording issue? Thanks for this and all your videos, looking forward to more in the future. I bet this system excels on other types of music as well. Cheers! :)

The album was recorded in Liverpool Cathedral in the UK in 1980. According to the records, Liverpool Cathedral is the fifth-largest in the world, and the organ is the largest church organ in the world, so it should have a lot of hall tone. 🙂Thank you for your comment. We truly appreciate it. 🙂

THANKS HRI, I know I've suggested Joni M in the past and I do enjoy this track. Soprano sax sounds great, bass sounds tonally accurate (I would have mixed it slightly more prominently). I think Joni's voice and the guitar have some of a boxy enclosure echo or resonance characteristic (or something), not extreme but I expected more unaffected clarity / transparency, you've had some (one or more, like the Piega Coax / Boulder system) REALLY clear & transparent systems in the past that ~ completely avoided that trait (I think it's the speakers but I guess it could be room reflections / interactions; doesn't seem likely given the distance of the mics from the speakers). You did your usual excellent work recording IMO. THANKS! Looking forward to your next video. Just my opinions, hope you don't take any of it as negative criticism, it's not meant that way. Cheers!

You know, hearing this system makes all that discussion about tubes vs solid state, vinyl vs digital, horns vs cones, etc just melt away. What remains is something so good, so real that all I can do is think about and be a part of the music. For me this is what "transparent" means.

@@HiFiImmersion SNAP i have the same one & while this track is my fave there is a manufacturing defect on mine on the first track calling Elvis. It’s enough i can love with it but annoys me I must lodge it on Discogs have not gotten around to it. Still it’s a marvellous album and that sultry hooks me all the time. The room noise (since I’m all about what you can’t or don’t listen to on a recording ) is wonderful Wilkinsons performance at Abbey road is a fine example of the art of silence although for me his track hopelessly coping featuring Thabo is like a surgeons scalpel it cuts everytime. While the mastering is far from perfect should you be like me and on the hunt for that sumptuous sound be sure to check out an indie outfit from Baton Rouge called Riarosa with a track like…. Maybe try better than nothing it has a dream pop sound that while it has that almost fleetwod rumors vibe to it it’s just good. Anyway stay safe & keep spinnin’. I’m off to DJ a wedding and while my hi-fi videos are not quite as sharp as your I think we can all get a HI-Five all around. 👋 stay safe.
